Brutal Assault on tub Siamese
Twins.—Tho Liverpool Journal of Sept.
25th, says—Yesterday evening a person in
the dress of a gentleman, committed a most
unprovoked assault on these boys, in the ex
hibition room. Although there was a crowd
of visitors, the attendant, who is particular)*
obliging, took every pains to satisfy his nu
merous and very troublesome inquiries, but
all did not satisfy him ; and because they did
not undress before ladies, he called them
“ impostors.” Their high sense of honour
revolted at the foul charge, and they rushed
from behind the table; and one of them, pull
ing out his purse, gave him a shilling, and
desired him to quit the room. He refused,
and aimed at them an unmanly blow. One
nothing loth, returned it with such effect,
that it drew blood from the nose of the visi
tor, who instantly departed, threatening un
action at law.
A Question, not unlike out Sunday Mail
Question has lately undergone considerable
d.S' ussion in Liverpool among he Rail Hoad
Directors. The Question was, whether it
was proper to allow the Curs to run on Sun
day on the Rail Road belwi on Liverpool and
Manchester. There were a!first two par
ties, one for, and the other against it alto
gether—at last, by way of reconciling the
matter to their conscience* - . it was agreed
that the Cars should run on Sunday, but only
fortlie accommodation of those who travel
from necessity. The consequence is that
the road is now crowded continually on the
Sabbath, by thousands of the labouring class
w lio from necessity, of course, cannot jour
ney on any other day of the wook. I

lated of him in the Loudon papers we extract
the following:—
During the lute election Jones levied con-
tribiitioiib upon tho public iu sundry ways,
as if he received as much pleasure from th"
i omie nature of his pretexts, as from tho pe
entnury profit. He went to a public-house
in the neighbourhood of Fleet street, where
an Election Committee usBiunbled, and sta
ted that he hud a vote for Rochester, lie
xvas received with great wurintli, and the
5 rood cheer of the house was put before hint
le was not, however long in the room when
a person entered whose appearance seemed
to give him great uneasiness. A friend of
tlie candidate for whom Jones said he was
prepared to vote, kindly enquired into the
cause] 'Why,' said he, 'that person you
just saw enter happens to ho my creditor fir
a paltry five shillings, and he is such a brute
that 1 know he will blow me up before the
whole room.’ ‘Oh,’ cried the gentleman,
‘the best thing von can do is to pay bun tin
money ;’ and half a sovereign wus irnmcdi.
pt< ly handed over to Jones, who went over
to trio stranger and retired from the room
with him, but mwer returned. The lender of
the money finding that his borrower was a
long time absent, ventured to question the
elector who had been pointed at as the harsh
creditor ! * Why, Sir,’ answered the elector,
‘ i don’t know what can keep the gentleman,
