It is true, wo may look lack wit-h rndo and
paiiii-on our past conflicts with Federal usur-t
pation.. Upon several occasions, wo have
been compelled to throw ourselves upon our
reserved r-ghts, and resist Federal encroach*
inotits; but wo liavo novtir veiled uur.
selves in the flimsy garment of penccnlde,
constitutional tmlliflcatinn. In t those deli
cate niid highly responsible acts, Georgia
has ahvny-i rolled on normvn population, the
justice ot'hcr cause, and tlicvirtuo and intelli-
gr.nccofthe people ol'tlid U.Stutds, to sustain
her umpicslionuble constitutional rights.—
And, hitherto, our confidence Ins not been
misplaced ; wo have had able friends and ad
vocates in c.ery part of tho Union, who have
stood by'’ii3 in times of the greatest peril,—
SVe are at presont very improperly charged
with nulliifying the intercourse. laws and In*
dian treaties of the U. Ntatos, when in fact,
these laws and treal i‘8 wore sot aside, and
had become measurably obsolete by Ihe acts
and assumptions of the Cherokee Imlia.ii*
themselves. Georgia, by her course of poli
cy, lias only nullified the nrroganl assump
tions of sovereign power, claimed and sot tip
by a remnant of tho aboriginal rnen, within
her acknowledged chartered limits.
Finally, fuilo.v.citizens, let us strive to he
of one mind, let our measures bo founded in
wisdom, justice and moderation—constantly
bo»ring in mind the Biicred truth, that a na.
lion or State “divided agaiustMuolf cannot

The Market.— InCotton a very brisk de
mand has been exp .riunced since Monday; an
advance of fully ) ofu cent has been realized
on all descriptions- This may be attributed
in some measure, to the quality of the article
which is said to be considerably better even
than that received last weok. The sales du
ring tho past threo days, Imvo reached nssr
2000bales^ot prices ranging from 10), 11)
cents, ab.nit one-fourth of wntch brought the

tained for choice lots. The sales would have
bepnto n much grouter extent, except for tho
limited stock on hand, os it is disposed of os
fast it arrives, and in some instances, ovon
before landing. Limited transactions have
taken place in llice at last week’s* prices.
Of Flour, so verol lots have bt en taken, but
