I herewith transmit to tho House of Ropre*

noivod atlhlsdopartmont, from Major Benjamin
F.'Curry, Enrolling Agont of thb United Stalest
and stnllnnod In tlio Cherokee Country, for tho
purpose of superintending that torvibo. Upon
examination, this communication will be found
to sustain tho vlows Which I submitted to llio

exhibits tho exposed situation of our entire popu.

Major Curry is an intelligent and highly re-
sponsible agont of tho United States govornmont,
who, from tho nature of his public duties, and
from the fact of haying spont most of his timo
for several years past in the Chorokee Country,
is therefore, of all olliors, best qualified to form
a correct opinion in regard to tho true stato
of tilings, now existing in that section of tho
stato.
With duo dolbrdnce.ond respect to tho Gone'
ral Assomrly, I trust tlrnt my solicitude, so re.
poatodly oxpressod, for appropriate legislation to
meet tho present stato of the country, will not
be considered obtrusive. It is clear and obvious,
that tho loaders of tho Clierokoos, who are oppo
sed to tho policy of tho government; aided and
countenanced, a* they are, by a small portion of
our own papulation; will novor yield obodionco
and respect to (he laws of oiir stale, until thoy
are compollod to do so by appropriate laws,faith-
fully exeeutod.
Where.tho quesUou of tho Sovroignty and
jurisdiction of tho State over its entire soil and
population is involved, no faction should l*o per.
mitted to thwart the policy of the state with im.
punity. Whatever divarsity of opinion may di
vido'our constituents upon minor subjects, I foul

poliey, no docoptivo arts of tlio pon or tho press,
can ov'or induco tho pooplo of Georgia to abdn.
don their rights, and rotrogr&do from tho ground
which they had taken In regard to this subject.
