Meeting at Flournoy's Mill...
A T a meeting uf iho gentlemen in the «r-
vide of the Georgia Lumlwr Company,
held in the dining room at FI -uruoy’s Mills - n
Saturday evening, Nov. 3d. 1835, ugroeahlo to
previous notice, to giro an expression of tboir
view* in regard to the subject of Slavery, as it
. now exists in tho Slate of Gaorgil,
Mr. Elijah Roberts wsa called to the chair,
When it was voted that a committee of throe
> ho chosen, to prepare and report Resolutions
exprossivo of the aenso of Uto meeting. The
fallowing gentlemen were unanimously chosen,
John Campbell, Elijah Roberta, and D. N.
Clark.
The committee having retired, returned and
through their chairman, J. Campbell, ropurtod
the following resolutions.
Believing it to be our duty and claiming it as
our right* aa freemen and American citizens,
we whose names are horeuulo annexud would
tiius publicly lay our views on tho subjnot of ala*
vory salt at presont oxista in tho Stata of Gnnr.
gia, before our friends at the North, in order, ii
possible, to refulo the vile slanders, that uro ov-
cry day propagated by malicious and deigning
won, a* well as to do justice to that community
of whielt we are become members. Having liv
ed nearly in tho contra of this Slate for aovorul
months, among a slave population, and having
had frequent opportunities of observing the rcla.
tion that exists between the mustor and tho slave,
in all its different beurings, wo have no hosilu-
tion in saying that the true nituulion of thy
slave in the South, will mffer nothing in com.
parisun witli that of the free purson of color at
the north. Indeed in very many instances it fr uu
questionably preferable ; it is true, the procoods
of their labor fr ut tho' control of the master.
But in many instance.- witli'n our kimwlutlgo,
that is fur from being a productive source of
wealth, after deducting a comfortable subri*-
tunco for the slave. Tho supposition ut tho
North, that the labour of the t-luvu is unforced
by the rigid application of the lash, is u cruel
and malignant slander on tho charity, sympathy
and bonovulonco of iho South, .and calculated
to impeach the honor, destroy the pouoo, and
alionute the affections of the t-nulhern commu
nity from thoir moro favored brolhren of tho
North, thoreforo

it in dungftrof being violated by tho saorilogeous

2d. Ror-olvod, That we boliovo a true con
struction of tiiat sacred instrument will effec
tually kettle evory controversy, that cun possi
bly arise out of the various compromises that
formed tho foundation of tho fadorul compact,
and that in fUilli and honor, it ought to be odd
sacred ami binding in all who participate in tho
invaluable privileges it confers on the citizens
of those Uoilud Stales.
3d. Itosolved, That wo contemplate with ploa.
sure the uumordus proofs we have seen of the
sympathy, tenderness, and cure, with which tho
citiZ'wa of our vicinity trout their slaves; ennur-
ing tiiuir support, providing for their safuty,
oxtentliug their privileges, and indulging their'
feelings on ovory proper occasion.
4th? Resolved, That wo see proofs *>f this on
every sido in the cordial uflbiitinn manifested on
tho pait oftlto sluvos, in limir ready defence of
ttinir masters poisons or property, in their fuilli-
fulness to his interest,in their deMro to anticipate

and at the tune of tho adoption of the federal

intezp-t, and us it oxislsonly in the South, where
it is best understood, wo regard evoiy act of of.
