utid Steamboats.
Travellers will find this Line perfect tbrougbout.
The rail rends are in lino older, the engines mid curs
new, and of tho most npptovcd tunsiniciiun, and
•he steamboats unsurpassed by any in the country.
Thcro Is now no delay nt *ny point, nml no expense
or trouble attending the transition of persons or
hnggage from one rail mud to another. From
Richmond north tlto route is now run over by day
light, nml the trip Is made from Weldon to Bulli*
more in ‘21 hours, including nil stoppages.
Oftho two routes going north from the Wilming-
cn rail road, the mail route is the shortest by ‘20
miles, nml being nearly ull rail rotul, it will be found
the most certain and expeditions. Tho other Line
through Portsmouth can only competo with it when
it has an early start, with favorable weather, fair
winds nml smooth water. This w ill he evident to
every traveller, when ho roflucts that it bu* neatly
0(M) miles of steamboat navigation, on a wide buy,
lor tho most purl out of sight of luntl.
Tltero are no changes on the mail line from ears
to steamboats in the dead of night; no starting
from a crowded limanr in tin* dark; no delays from
fog* or gales of wind; no sea sickunss, and no lung
fine of stennthoH.'s forced to run to the lop of their

The mail line will be found the most interesting
of tlm two, ns it passes through tinge nml Hum idli
ng towns, n pleasant country, in sight of Mount
Trrnon, (clo-e to which thestennihoat on the l’oto-

it is believed are much more agreeable objects than
the pines nml swamps, or the endless prospect ol
tiler, on the other.
The mail lino is the only direct tonic to Wash-
glon City. Passengers reach there n duy ahead
t those who lake the other line. It i* ti e only
route to tho Virginia Springs, uml there is nmv
nearly ICO miles of rail road from Weldon in the
direction of the Springs, currying passengers w itliin
a day’s ride of them.
The fare is the same ns by the other line, and
passengers pay through to Baltimore.

GEORGIA ILLUSTRATED,
In a leritt of Original Pitlurtt, on tteel, with
letterprcn descriptions.
mHB plan of publisldng in successive numbers,
plclfliittl works, illustrative of the scenery of
countries, has lung boon a populur ono in Knrnpo
and is rapidly gaining fu or in our own country.
Tito pruspecltii to Issue such a work, devoted to
the scenery of Georgia, although novel, will ondmiht
cdly find universal favor, and Im regarded as it it by
the editor, u plun at mica felicitous and feasible.—
There is much scenery in our State, that is not sur
utssed in beauty and sublimity, by llmt of any other
State in the Union. Tlm up|icr counties ulmund in
scenes, which need only tn Im known to command
the admiration of all who lovu the beauties of nature.
Much of the scenery of the north is inferior to our
own, but is yet visitod by ihuusnndt simply becituso
it has been icrilltn, snug and •'lionised" by authors
and travellers, until its beauty has become universal
ly known ami appreciated. It Is desirable that at.
luntinn sh mid ba directed to our own resources of
tho picturesque in natural scenery, and when this it
done, our ow n and northern touri-ts will speedily
tender our beautiful views at immorlul at our Ian-
gunge.
Tho south is chnrgrd with general Indifference to
the progress of Literature and the Fine Arts; ami
probably the strangest foundation fur tlm chnrge is
lbund in her inaction in enterprises calculated to
foster these objects. Tlm publication of the pro
ned work wifi,"tt is believed, bu an effective blow
this foundation, mid n Hep toward* the establish
men! of our literary reputution, to which end much
honorable effort is now direrted.
A third consideration, u(id the Inst which will
now-bourred, is the intrinsic vnluc'ofstmh a publi
cation its" GEORGIA ILLUSTRATED." It
will embody tlm rcpiesentutinns of the henuliful urn]
sublime in our Stnto scentery, and afford to nil, ut a
trilling expense, exact pictures of our mountain*,
vallies, cataracts, public buildings, dec., which limy
inny or may, not otherwise behold, but which, in
cither case, would afford pcculini pleasure.
Tho ptoposed work will be executed in a style sti
•rior to any similar pictoral wotk in tlm ■country,
lie plates will he exeou ed on steel by eminent en
gravers, from original drawing*, made expressly for
the purpose, by Mr. T. Addison Richards, of Au
Rustn. The engravings will he accompanied with
letterpress descriptions, prepared for the wmk, uml
in this department the editor will secure, ns far ns
ms«iblc, tlm nssittnnre and co operation of i-ur

make the work a perfect gem of its kind, to the
end that, it may meet a welcome reception not only
home but also abroad.

tlm approaching session of Congress. They
have had such a wide circulation in the United States,
and tltcir usefulness and cheapness are so universal
acknowledged, that wa deem it unnecessary to
detailed account of what tho future number*
will contain. Suffice it to say that tb-y will be in
valuable to all who feel an intrrrsl in the proceed
ingsof Congress. No oiher publication gives riietti
so full, nor half so cheap. It is, indeed, rim cheap
c*t publication in tlm United States—perhaps in the
world. Our position at the seat of Govci nment enn
blcs us to print them nt so low n rate. We are com
pelled to publish the proceedings of Congress in do
mil, for our daily paper. This dnne.it requires,
comparatively, but n small additional expense to
chnogc them to tlie form* of the Congressional Globe
and Appendix. If it were not for tbtse circum
stances, wo could not publish them for four times
the sum charged. In some parts of tho United
States, the white paper, upon which these works uro
printrd, would soli tin os much as we charge fur
tin- publication*.
Tim Federal party having succeededin electing
their candidtito to the Presidency, its leaders will
now have to decline the policy they intend ta pur
sue. They will he obliged to make it known at the
beginning of tlm approaching session of Congress.
They rnnnel avoid it, ur put it off any longer.
Those who support them will he eager to know how
it will benefit their interests, and will drive them to
it. All tho mensuras ef thfi coming Administra
