The south is charged with general indiffercncolo
tlm progress of Literature nnd the Fine Arts; uml
probably tho strongest foundation for tlm charge is
found in her inaction in enterprises calculated to
foster these objects. Tho publication of the pi
posed work will, it is believed* bo ah effective blu
nt this foundation, and a siep-townrd* the establish
ment of our literary rnputntion, to which end mucli
honorable effort is now directed.
A third consideration, and the last which will
rtow be urged, is tho intrinsic vnlueofsuclm publi
cation ns “ GEORGIA ILLUSTRATED." It
will embody the representations of the beautiful nnd
sublime in our Stnto seen lory, nnd afford to all, at n
trifling expense, exact pictures of our mountains,
vnllirs. cataracts, public buildings, &c., which ili«-y
mny or may, not otherwise behold, but which, in
cither case, would nflbrd pcculiai pleasure.
Tlio proposed work will bo executed in a style »u
perior to nny similur.pictnrnl woik in the country.
The plates will he executed on steel by eminent en
gravers, from orieimtl drawings, made expressly for
the purpose, by Mr. T. Addison Richards, of An
gustn. Tho engravings will hn accompanied with
letterpress descriptions, prepared for the woik, nnd
in this department the editor will secure, ns fnr ns
possible, the assistance and co operation of our
bait writers. In short no pains will fee spared tn
rnnkn tlio work n perfect gem of its kind, to the
end that, it mny meet a welcome reception not only

The Federal party having succeeded in electing
