United Suites mull Line to Hie
North.
Itaten of Freight of the Central
Ball Hoad.
T HE only Lino carrying tho Great Northern
Mails, in connexion with the Charleston and
Wilmington Steamboat and Rail Road Line, com-
noticing at tho northern end of that Line, nnd run
sing through Petersburg. Richmond, Fredericks-
burg, Washington, Baltimore, &c. by Rail Roads
and Steamboats.
Travellers will find this Lino perfect throughout.
The rail rends are in fine outer, tlieengines nnd cars
now, nnd of tho most npptnved construction, nnd
die steamboats unsurpassed by any in the country.
There is now no delay nt any point, und no exponso
or trouble tittending the transition of persons or
baggage from olid rail rotul to nnulhor. Ftom
Richmond north tho retito is now run over by day
light, nnd the trip is mndo from Weldon to Balti
more in 21 hours, including nil stoppages.
Of tho two routes going north from tho Wilming-
f n rail road, the mail route is tho shortest by 20
miles, nnd being nearly nil rail road, It will he found
tho most certain nnd expeditious. Tho other Lino
through Portsmouth can only compete with it when
it has an early start, with favorable weather, fair
winds and smooth water. This will be evident to
every traveller, when ho reflects that it has nearly
500 miles of etcambnut navigation, on a wide bay,
for the most port out of sight of land.
There lire no changes on tho mail line from enr*
to steamboats in the dead of night; no storting
from n crowded lint'.tor in the dark; no delays from
fog* or gales of wind; no sen sickuess, nnd no long
lino of steamboats forced to run to tho top of their
need to jTtll.rough in time—all of which will be
.* r. **n the other route.
The mail lino will be found th* most interesting
»f llm two, ns it passes through iorgo nnd llonrisli-
ng towns, a pleasant country, in sight of Mount
Vernon, (c!o*e to which the steamboat on the Polo-
tine pns.es,) nnd through Washington City; which
it is beliovcd arc much more ogreeuble objects than
the pities nnd swnmps, or tha endless prospect of
ntor, on tho other.
The mnil lino Is tho only direct route to Wash-
gton City. Passengers reach there a day ahead
I those who take tho other line. It is the only
mute to tho Virginia Springs, and there is now
nenrly 100 mik*» of rail rond from Weldon in tho
direction of tho Springs, carrying passengers within
a day’s ride of them.
The fore i* the same ns by the other line, nnd
passengers pay through to Baltimore.
For further information upply in tho Agent* uf
tho Petersburg Rail Iload Company, Weldon, or
at Garysburg.

T HESE works will be published by us during
the opprunching session of Conirwwx. They
huvo land .noli n wliJoclrculuilonin the United States,
nnd their usefulness und cheapness are so universal
ly acknowledged, Hint wo deem it unnecessary to
give a derailed account of what tho future number*
will contain. Suffice it to sny that th-y will be in-
vnlunblo to nil who feel an interest in the proceed
ings of Congress. Nooihrr publication gives them
■o full, nor liulf so cheap. It is, indeed, Hie cheap
eit publication in the United Stales—perhaps in tlio
wnild. Our position at the seat of Government run
blcs us to print them nt so low n rate. We nre com
polled to publish tlie proceedings of Congress in do
rail, for our duily paper. This done, it requires,
comparatively, l-ut a small additional expense to
change them to tho forms ofthoCongressional Globe
and Appendix. If it were nut for the-e eireuni-
stnnnct, wo could not publish them for four times
the sum charged. In soma part* of the United
Slums, tho whito paper, upon which these works uro
printed, would toll for ns much as we charge for
the publications.
The Federal party having succeeded in electing
tlicir Candidate to tho Presidency, il* lenders will
now have to declare tho policy they intend to pur
sue. They will be obliged to make it known nt the
beginning of the approaching session of Congress.
They rnnnot avoid it, or put it off uny longer.
Those who support them will In* eager t« know how
it will benefit their interest*, and will drive them to
it. All tho measure* nf the coining Administra

think it nll-inipurluut that the people should lm in
