F OR regulating the election, qualification and
duties of City Surveyor, to fix the number of
feet of porticos, railing*, enclosures and pavements'
and to regulate tbo muiiio j and for the better keep,
ing die squares, streets, public places and wharves
ntid docks of dio City of Savannah free mid clear
of obstructions, and for otiicr purposes conucctud
therewith.
Sec. 5. “ Bo it further ordained, That no person
shall bring, Inv, or cause to be brought, laid or put
any timber, bricks, stones, or odief inotcrial* for
building, or firewood, goods, wares or merchandise,
nr oilier bulky thing whatsoever, nnd permit und
suffer tho snme to continue and remain in uny
square, street, lano or aJJey within the said City for
a longer timo than six hours, nor shall any person
permit or suffer any cart, drny, wagon orenrriago
of any sort to stand and remain iu any square,
street, bine or alley, longer than such time n* afore
said,” nor shall any person, without previously ob
taining the written consent of die Mayor mid two
diird* of die members of die City Council, place,
s.-ect, or constuct, or cause to bo placed, erected,
or constructed, in any square, street or hum, or odi
cr place, of or in tho City of Savannah, any booth,
tent, or other obstruction, See. See. And any per
son offending against the provisions of this sccticu,
shall on conviction be subject to a flue, not exceed
ing one hundred dollar* for each and every offence
if a white person, or corporal punishment if die of
fender be a slave or free person ofcolor.
