The weather.coutinues uninterruptedly dry and
fine, inducing Planters to direct all their force to
picking out their Cotton, deferring the process of
ginning and sending to market until a change of
weather prevents out-door work—when that occurs
we may expect to see free arrivals of Cotton of im
proved quality.

Cotton.—Thero has been u slight ndvunco in this
nrticlo since our Irst report, dilatations may now
l)c made at front 84 to 8|. Tho reason why tho
lowest quality is 84 is because the old crop is pretty
much exhausted and none but new coining in. The
whole crop this season so fur bears a bountiful ap
pearance, outcomes in rather slow for the time of
year.
Freights are $1 60, and the river too low for
steamboats.—Chronicle.
\ SELMA, (Ala.) Oct. 23.
The foreign advices per tho Acadia has had no
material effect ou the markets. Cotton is now
hoavy, and the sales that aro taking place are on
terms more favorable to buyers. Our tnnrkethus
not yet fully opened, owing to tho absence of
buyers, and the dull, unsettled statu of other
markets. Tho soles that have been tnado during
the week range from 74 to 84 cents. Our river
is falling fast, and there is every prospect of its
becoming low. Boats are plying freely, jnrgo
quantities of new goods have just been received,
and our town begins to assume n busy nppearance.
NEW-ORLEANS, Oct 30.
Cotton.—Business in tho Cotton market has
been more general, during the pastwoek, titan for
sonic time previous: but, though there was a fair de
mand at the opening of the week, this gradually
slackened, nnu the market has relapsed into its
formerstate ofinactivity. Tho demud has been
chiefly confuted to the classes ranging from inferior
to middling fair, of which the bulk of tho stock ou
handed is composed; and itt these classes holders
havo been compelled to submit to jc. per
lb., but prices are yet higher than the majority of
purchasers are inclined to ope ato ut,to which cause
