carried on in the City of Savannah in other than
fire-proof buildings."
Be it ordainod by tho Mayor and Aldermen of me,, i
tiie City of Savannah and Hamlets thereof in Coun
cil nssctribled, mid it is hereby ordained by tho au
thority of Uto same, -That the Ordinnnce, entitled
“ an Ordinance, defining the trades thnt mily not
be carried on within Ute limits of lire City bf Sa
vannah, in other than fire-proof buildings," pi

Abstract of nu Ordinance,
F OIl rcgulaliug tho election, qualification and
duties of City Surveyor, to fix die number of
feet of porticos, railings, enclosures and pavements,
und to regiilate die same; and for the better keep
ing die squares, streets, nublic plnces and wharves
and docks of die City of Savannah freo and clear
of obstructions, and for odter purposes connected
therewith.
Sec. 5. "Be it further ordained, That no person
shall bring, lav, or cause to be brought, laid or put
any timber, bricks, stones, or other materials for
building, or firewood, goods, wares or merchandise,
or other bulky diing whatsoever, and permit and
suffer die saute to condnue mid remain in nny
square, street, lane or alley within die said City for
a longer time than six hours, nor shall any person
permit or suffer any enrt, dray, wagon or carriage
of any sort to stand. and remain in any square,
street, lane nr alloy, longer diansuch dine as afore
said,’’ nor shall any person, without previously oh
taming the written consent of die Mayor una two
dtirds of the members of the City Council, pluce,
erect, or constuct, or cause to be placed, erected,
or constructed, iu any square, street or lane, or oth
er place, of or in dm City of Savutmoh, any boodi,
tent, or other obstruction, Ac. &c. And any per
son offending against the provisions of this sectieu,
sludl on conviction be siihjectto a fine, not exceed
ing one hundred dollars for each mid every offence
if u white person, or corporal puuishment if the of
fender be a slave or free person of color.
