TY, August 20, 1846.—I do hereby certify, that
my daughter Caroline was attacked with Typhus
Fever, on the 5th of July last, which as followed
by a avers spasm, which lasted two hours. 1 im
mediately sent for. Dr. W. Hendry, who is now
located bt Mr. Boston's, in this county, and in a
few momenta after his arrival, she was seized with
« bacond attack which immediately locked her
jews. It was expected by those who saw her,
that she would* not live six honrs. But through
the blessing of God, the skill of the Doctor, and
the virtue ofth Thorosonlsn Medicine, she was
immediately relieved. She was then seized with
• Violent inflammation, which seated itself in her
bowels, during tho absence of the Doctor,—but
to our astonishment he removed it within one
hour's time# Notwithstanding the severity of tho
ever, the was restored to health in 10 days. Un*

as anattontive and skilful Physician.

Fairbaak’s Platform Scales.—It Is notofien
that we are iiidiicad to laud mi article of trade, and
we never de unless perfectly satisfied that we aro
commending something that is usaful. We can*
not consent to gratify tho cupidity of an individual,
»t the risk of imposing the confidence ofthnusands
ef our readers who rely upon the honesty of our
statements, ir not in the iufafibtltty oT our judg

within a few years, in the instruments of uoighing
merchandise, ie a fict'Amiiliar lo bu-iness tneu.
The antique clumsy end inaccurate method* of
weighing, have given way to the invention of
American mechanical skill, and the utmost pre
cision has been attorned A variety of Platform
Uslanceiare manufactured and used, which can*
not bo relied on for any considerable aegree of
accuracysso that liter ncoes«niily involve one
party in pecuniary loss. It therefore affords us
pleasure to refer to the Platform Scale# of Mr.
Fairbanks, which have been exltfnsively used iu
all parts of the United &tate*for several years, nnd
given, as fir as our knowledge extends, very gen
eral satisfaction. We purchased one af these scales
three yenrs since, and have lived them constantly
for we ghing paper, &o. and for accuracy and du

haps cannot, be Surpassed. Tha plan of con
struction is philosophical ond simple. The em
ployment of two levers, with n singla beam, is
ccrtuiuly the moil practicable, in n compound

of levers or an additional beam, renders the in
