FAinBAiK’s Platform Scales.—It ia not often
that we are induced tn land nn article of trade, anil
we never do unless perfectly n:iu*fiej that we are
commending something that i* useful. We can
not consent to gratify the cupidity of an individual,
at ihe risk of imposing the confidence of thousands
of our readers who rely upon tlm honesty of our
sV'itemvnts, if noi in the inlnlihiliiy of our judg
ment. That great improvements have been made
within a few year*, iu the instruments of weighing
merchaudi-e, is a fict familiar tn hu-ines* men.
The antique clumsy and iuaccuratn methods of
weighing, have given way to the invention of
American mechanical skill, and the utmost pro
ciaion has been atuiined A variety nf Platform
Balances are manufactured and used, wli ch can
not bo relied on for any considerable degree of
accuracy: so t'latlhev nuces-aiily involve one

ployment of two levers, with a single Imam, is
certainly the most practicable, in a compound
