withdrawn from market on account of the railroad grant.
Under the act of Congress, approved 3d March 1853, en
titled “An act to extend pru-empiion rights to certain lands
therein mentioned,” the Pre-emption laws of the. United
States as they now exist are extended over the alternate
reserved sections of public land* along the line of the rail-
road hereinbefore mentioned, where the settlement and im-
E roromenta were made prior to the final allotment ol the al-

by pre-emption to any of the alternate seotlons of public
