Notice to adual settlers on lands of the United States originally
withdrawn from market on account qf the railroad grant.
Under the act of Congress, approved 3d 5Iarch 1853, cn-
titled ;, An act to extend pre-emption rights to certain lands
therein mentioned,” the Pre-emption laws of the United
States as they now exist are extended over the alternate
reserved sections of public lands along the line of tho rail-
road hereinbefore mentioned, where the settlement and 1m-
prnveraents were made prior to the final attUment of tho al
ternate sections to tho said railro -d. Therefore all claims
by pre-emption to any of the alternate sections of public
lands within the limit* originally reserved will attach, if
predicated upon settlements made prior to the 4th February
1853, the date of the final allotment.
Claims within the six miles limits must be proven up at
any time before the day herein fixed for the commencement
of public sale, and are to be paid for at tho rate of two dol
lars and fifty cent* per acre. Claims outside of six miles,
and within the limits'of the original reservation, must be
proven up prior to tho restoration of said lands to private
entry.
Soldier’* bounty land warrants, at a dollar and twenty-
five cent* per acre, may be received In payment for either
class of land ; one warrant only, however, can bo located
by each pre-emption.
Immediately after the close of tho public sale directed
by the foregoing proclamation of the President, applications
will be received for the purebnse at private entry, or loca
tion by warrants.of tiio lands reserved to satisfy this grant,
outside of the six mile* limit*, in such order oa tq prevent
confusion and insure accuracy, in accordance with Instruc
tions to bo issued to tho registers and receivers.
