General shall cause the facts tobe investigated in relation
to tlio contractor A. G. Sloo. for the transportation of the
mall in ocean steamers from New York to New Orleans,
Charleston, Savannah. Havana, and Chngres. back, per act
of March third, efghteen hundred nnd forty-seven,
for the purpose of ascertaining how for the contract cor
responds with tho original bids, and shall report to Con
gress at tho noxt session the fact* and circumstances con
nected with tbo said contract; and also for wlmt amount
the raid mail service could be performed if a new contract
should bo mado, nnd whether tbe ships furnished under
raid contract are built according to its terms. Tbe Post
master General is further directed by this act to ascertain,
anil re|iort to Congress at its next session, for what amount*
tlio service, now performed under tho several contracts
with the Navy and Post Office Departments for carrying the
mail in ocenn steamers, can be hereafter performed, upon
