By tho overland mail we-learn that tho U. B. Ex
pedition comprising the Susquehanna, Princeton,
Plymouth and Saratoga, sailed on tho 3d of July,
from Sbangai for Japan, followed by two Russian
frigates. The Susquehanna and Saratoga had toadi
ed at several Islands, and distributed live stock. At
the Island of Boraar, where they found European set-
tiers, they purchased ten acres of land, and a line
harbor for a coal depot.
The Chinese revolution extends, but no decisive
action is reported.
The King of Prussia bas concluded not to go to
the meeting of the Emperors of Russia and Austria
at Olmntz.
The Paris papers state that the Frenoh Govern
ment entertains confident hopes that tho Turkish dif. •
Acuities will bo settled without an appeal to arms.—
The Patrie adds that tho Emperor of Russia will

Advices bavo been received by tho President at
Washington, Btatlng that serious difficulties had oc
curred between tho American and Mexican troops in
the Mcsilla Valley. It is understood that the Mexi
can Government intended to demand explanation
from Gen. Gadsden in reference to the Americans
sending troops into the Valley. Advices have been
received at the Navy Department, that Commodore
Ringgold’s exploring squadron were at Cape de
Verde, on tho 27th July—all well.

Tlie intormentf in New Orleans on Monday of par
ties who had died from yellow fever were only 6. Tho
Board of Health ban discontinued the dally reports,
considering that tlie epidemic is now over. The

The sales of cotton during the week have compris
ed 3500 bales. Tho receipts iu the same period have
amounted to 11,000 bales. The stock on hand is 28,-

mium.
New Orleans, Oct. 4.
On Monday in New Orleans tlie cotton market was
unsettled, and prices were irregular, being fully an
eight hof a cent lowerafter the reception of tlie Ameri
ca’s advices, although to give accurate quotations is
impossible. The sales comprised 600 balea. The re
ceipts for the last two day were 2000 balea.

the specie.
