Boumnux. Oct. 01.1853.
During the pawl month our Coffee market ha* been qnint
and dull, with a limited demand from the trade, who npe
rate with extreme caution in view of the ample stock and
the unsettled state of monetary affair*.
The transaction* nr the month consist mostly nf the re
cent arrivals and invoices from shipboard, all of which have
changed hands at some decline on previous ourrent rates.—
The only caTgn afloat unsold is tlie Poultxuy of £400 bags
for which 11 Bouts, 6 months, has been refused. Holders nf
stocks in store continue firm at fuD rates without pressing
sales.
Our statistics for 1852 show that the sales of Coffee for con
sumption at all ports of the United States, from July 1st to
December .‘list, were about 600 000 bags, nr 83.300 bags ave
rage per mnuth. This year, notwithstanding dealers con
tracted thuir stooka. the suit* for the past fnur months as
far us reported, amount to 260.000 bags, or 02.600 bag* ave
rage per month, n decrease or 28 per cent. On the other
hand our receipts Into the whole country the past three
mouths have averaged a little over 40.000 bags per month,
a decrease of nearly 60 per cent, from the same period of
last year. It this be any crltariun of the course of supply
and demand for the balance of this crop year, a few months
will soon absorb both the present stock and the entire re
ceipts.*
