Perhaps It may not bo uninteresting to some or our read-
era to hear something of the florernor’s Levee, which came
off tut night. There has been, since the Governor's inau
guration, much speculation in regard to tho time that this
great event would take place; and these were not settled
until the Invitations were distributed some days ngo. Of
course great preparations were made by those who were In-
vlWB, and persons were assembling there from early candle
light to eleven o’clock. The crowd waa Immense—greater,
we are informed, than hu ever been known to attend
a levee at this place before. The display was grand, and
the supper table the roost beautiful one we ever beheld,
and did great credit to the fair hand that arranged It. Num-
bera of ladles from every part of the State were prosent
among whom were Miss It—-,of Nownan ; Miss D—and
the Misses B , of Macon ; the Misses C and Miss
M——, of Athens: also Mr*. II—, of Alabama, and many
others whose names we could not learn,
Baldwin County had a large and beautiful representation
there. Among those who particularly attracted our atten
tion were Miss W—e, Miss W—a. Miss W—n, and Miss It—,
of MilledgeviUe ; and the Misses N—the Misses T-
of Importance in regard to Hint branch of tho public the Ulnre 8 , th» llluoi a , Min R , and Mr..

Senat*—Mr. Dunwoody moved to re-consider so much of
the Journal, of Saturday, as relates to the bill to regulate
the measurement of timber In this State. This motion was
lost. Yea* 2d—Nay* 54.
Mr. Pope, of Wilkes, then moved tu re consider so much
of the same as relates to the resolution which was lost on
Saturday—relative to the recess which the Legislature pro
poses to take.
Mr. Dunnagan, of lloll, opposed tho motion: said ho was
afraid to go homa to hi* constituents sftor having done so
little.
Mr. Green, of Pike, said that he was also afraid of his con
stituents, but his fear was different from that of the Sena
tor from Hall. He could only reply, when asked tho reason
of his having done so little, that his modesty prevented him
from having anything to say in the presence of such men
as the Senator from Hall, who was always consuming the
time of the Senate. He said that tho Senator from llullncli
[Mr. Cono] was also opposed to taking a recess, and he
thought very naturally, at the Senator had no wife at
home, whom be could visit. He bad seen tbe gentleman
looking very frequently at the ladles in the gallery, and if
ho did not return homo during the roccis he could find
enough entertainment in their company in-ftfilledgevllle.
Mr. Cone said, he did not dosire to •• open his mouth ” on
the question, but as he was referred to in the remarks of
the Senator from like, ho would only ssy a few words. He
ssld that the Senator had given as a reason for having done
nothing, that ho was too modest. He knew that; and
thought that his constituents would have done better had
they sent eotne one here who conld have attended to their
business. Ho did not expect anything from the gentle
man ; and was confident that tho gentleman’s constituents
did not, when they sent him here.
The question to re consider being put before the Senate,
was carried. Yeas 50—Nays 38.
It waa moved to toko up the resolution relative to the
recess. This was carried. Yeas 67—Nays 30.

They left tbu city on Saturdry morning, nucl took the

been from $550 to $400 a day, and another from $300
to $100 daily. The Beach Diggings between Cre^ceut
