A most destructive conflagration has ju*t taken place in Front-street, and amoug the shipping along the docks. Five wholesale flour stores, and three or four ships are destroyed : among the latter fe McKay's new clipper ship Great Republic, having on board a full and valuable cargo, from which nothing waa saved. The following firms are among tho heaviest sufferers In Front street, viz.: Treadwell * Sons, bakery ; D. W. Muiawariug & Co.; Joues Sc. Row land ; C. Harris & Co.; R. W. Reynolds & Co.; Du* senbury’s large bell foundry; Davis & Young's crock ery store. During the progress of the flames the wiud blew a perfect gale. The ship Great Republic, the packet ship Warren, and .the clipper ship Red Rover, were totally destroyed. The packet ship De Witt Clinton was nearly destroyed. The clipper ship White Squall was towed down the rivor, enveloped inflames. The Greaf Republic was scuttled, but the water waa too shallow. She is still burning.
