Engineers' Testimony.
Manhattan Gab Works. Oct. 23.1852.
I'ear Sir:—Enclosed I send you a certificate setting forth
as briefly as I cau the advantages of Dr. Kidder's admirable
invention. I do not think it necessary to mention any ex
periments I may have made ; Dr*. Ellett. Torrey and Gibbs
have a book full to be produced when needed.’ 1 will add
here. however. To be used wlien you desire it. the result of
an experiment made at these works, and which can be re
peated whenever desired. With the street pressure of four
and u half inches of water, and one burner near the gov
ernor, the pressure of the burner gauge was seven tenths.
The governor remaining untouched, the number of lights
was increased to fifty-four, extending over a surface of
several hundred feet, and the street pressure was reduced
to two incites, and the pressure gange at the governor, i
before, seven-tenths. Yours, respectfully.
CHARLES ROOMS.
Manhattan Gab Works, Oct. 23. 1852.
The Gas Regulator of Dr. Kidder is. in my opinion, the
most valuable instrument for regulating the"flow of gu* to
the burners that I have ever seen. It Is correct in princi
ple, and will accomplish admirably the objects for which it
was designed. It will insure great steadiness in the lights,
and as the pressure at the metre is. by this instrument, re
duced considerably below that ontliestreetinains.it will
enable the consumer to gain an equal amount of light at a
smaller expenditure of gas : for the less the pressure under
which the gas is consumed, the greater is the amount of
light obtained. CHARLES ROOM I; Engineer
Manhattan Gas Light Company.
Richmond, August 13. 1853.
My engagement j prevented mo from experimenting with
your Regulator before this week. I h.vl it put up and
arranged that I coni 1 show the pressure of the work:
the burners, which vary from 2 to2J( inches. I made some
weights oflead and weighed it sol brought the pressure to
6-10. tho pressure on the street mains 2,'.{ inches, ami with
6 of your 4 feet burners under the street pressure the cocks
turned off so that they would not perceptibly blow. I con
sumed 12 cubic feet in 25 minute*. I then put the Regula
tor on and opened the cocks full, same number of burners,
burning the same time, I consumed 0 cubic feet, show!
saving of 25 i>er cent. Tho experiment to me was ....
satisfactory ; the lights burned very steadily. I could not
lierceive nny difference in the pressure or flame whether
one or six of the light* were burning. From what I have
seen. I would have no hesitation iu recommending it.* us

1 have been using Kidder's Regulator in tny hotel for the
last six weeks, and during that time I am confident I have
saved in money 25 per cent over the amount paid for the
same time last year, ami believe my light as good as before
using it, and do feel confident that it is a derided saving to
the consumer of gas. W. GADSBY.
Astor Hocbe, Nov. 1. 1853.
We have had Dr. Walter Kidder’s Gas Regulator in use
tho Astor House for several month* past We have three
Regulators attached to as many metres, (one on each.) an
they supply about 280 burners. The Regulators operate
finely ; they perfectly regulate the burning of gas. and with
as good a light, save us a handsome per contuse upon our
bills of consumption, sny about fifteen dollar* a week, which
is equal to twenty five per cent, on our gas bills. We con
sequently feel very great confidence in the success of the
