A destructive fire commenced here this morning at
10 o’clock, in Perry’s House Furnishing store, corner
of Magazine nnd Natohea-flts, In the centre of busi
ness, which it destroyed, and oxtended to Delagraves,
Burrows fc Ostrom’s Liquor fitorc; A. L. Addison,
Commission Merchant; Price, Walsh A Co.; C. A J.
Tote, Tobacco Dealers, all on Natchez street; next,
to Sykes A Co., nnd Murphy A Novlns, Auctioneers,
Mngazlno-st.; Barton A Borgcois, Furniture Dealers.
The Canal Bank was often on fire, and was severely
scorched, though, as by a miracle, the firemen suc
ceeded in saving it.
The whole loss is estimated at 1350.000, and most
ly covered by insurance-14,000 of which is in tlie
office of the "Homo Mutual.”
Daniel Woodruff, President Exempt Firemen's Be
nevolent Association, was killed by the fulling of a
wall.
