The Lumber must be sound, free from largo or rotten
kn>d«.cross shakes and generally of any imperlectioiia which
will materially aTect Ita strength, tuid be sawed straight
ami free to dimension*. A moderate amount of sap on any
piece will not be objected to; but sticks which are nuf
clear of bark will bo rejected.
The Lumber must be subject lo Inspection and Measure
ment after delivery at Fort Jefferson, by an agent of the

considered as received until such inspection and measure
ments shall hnvo been made.

cent on tiie closing quotations of tiie week previous.

brands at $7 12J. Ohio is worth 47 37&. In South
ern brands the quotations arc a shade lower, with

A severe gale was experienced in different parts of
No.vv England aud New York on Saturday. In Huh ton
harbor great damage resulted to the shipping, vessels
being blown from tbeirtnooringH, Ac. Tiie gale was
felt severely in New York city, Albany, Troy and
Utica. In Albany immense damage was sustained,
while in Troy and Utica houses were unroofed, sever
al buildings completely prostrated, nnd persons in
jured. One man was killed in Troy.
Serious Riot In New Haven—A Man Killed.
New Haven, March 20.
A serious riot occurred here on Friday evening,
between a number of tho students of Yale College
nnd a body of citizens, in which pistols and dirks
were freely used. One man. named Patrick O’Neal,
was shot dead, nnd another man received anerioiis
wound in tlio leg from a pistol ball. Dr. R.Schofield,
in passing quietly up Chappel-st., received a slight
wound in the nrm from an almost spent pistol hull.
Tlio bells of tlio city were subsequently rung, nml
a general alarm given. Two loaded cannon were
brought to bear upon the green, by means of whirl),
in connection witli tho city authorities nud the col
lege faculty, tho inob was quieted.
