The feelings of pride with which Mr. May has for years
contemplated the progress of the Seaport uf his native
State, a feeling which has frequently found expression in
the columns of the Southern Democrat while under Ids
clnrge—is the best assurance that nothing he can do will
be wanting to bring trade to Savannah—especially to those
whose advertisements appear in this paper. So that whilo

advocate, wherever he goes, of tho interests of tho City,
and of those of its business men whoso names appear in
our columns.
Hie political principle! of the Georgian will of courac
continue to be those of the Democratic school; though

Its commercial department, especially, will the most assid

it has already established for the accuracy, fullness and
clearness of its cotton tables, cotton statements ami mar
ket reports, it shall bo our endeavor to increase and extend.
Fid illy, as a medium through which to obtain the latest
intelligence, the Georgian commends itself to a very exten
