Oglethorpe Aralkern Democrat, who will devote Ida entire
time end Ulente to the Intereite of the peper. By thl* ar

Iallied by Mr. Mat, a* a matter of preference with him,
and of MtUfaetlnn to u». Ill* acquaintance extending to
nearly every county In Georgia, to a Urge portion ot Ten-
neuee. to Alabama, and to Florida, peculiarly fits him for
the work ho ha* undertaken. Mr. Mat will take charge of
all huelnes* out of the city—will canvaa* for the papbr,
receive »uhtorlpUon, and collect the due* of the office—
rrport all matter* of general Intereat which may »h> pro
fited to hi* notice—correspond a* occasion and Intereat
require, and. in abort, will eomblne hi* exertion*, physical
and mental, with our*, to give attract! vena** to the columns
and extend the circulation of the Georgian.
Of the intelleotualqualillcatlon* of Mr. Mat it I* scarce
ly necessary Ibr us to apeak. The ability which character*
lied the Editorial department of the Southern Democrat
during the two and a half years that he was connected with
It. Is a sufficient guarantee of his capacity.
To the business* men of Savannah w* confidently look
for an increase of advertising patronage. Unless mistaken
in our calculation*, our association with Mr. Mat, in con
nection with our arrangements, which wo are now mak
ing. will constitute the Georgian the liett vthiele for atlocr-
tii-ments within their reach We expect to send It, not
only Into every tom. village nml neighborhood in Georgia, but
to every point In the neighboring States, which railroad
and steamboat have opened to the trade of the City,
The feeling* of pride with which Mr. Mat has for year*
contemplated the progress of the Seaport of his native
Slate, a feeling which has frequently found expression in
the columns of the Southern Democrat while under his
charge—I* the best assurance that nothing ho can do will
be wanting to bring trade to Savannah—especially to tlioee
whose advertisements appear in thl* paper. St that while
an agent for us he will at the same time be a most efficient
advocate, wherever he goes, of the interests of the City,
mid of those of its business men whose nainos appear In
o rr columns.
The political principles of the Georgian will of courso
rontinuc to be those of the Democratic school ; though
politics will play a part In its column* altogether subordi
nate to it* nows, business and commercial character. To
it« commercial department, especially, will the most assid
uous attention continue to bo given. The reputation which
it lias already establishM for tho accuracy, fullness and
clearness of Its cotton tables, cotton statements and mar
ket reports.it shall bo our endeavor to increase and nxtend.
Finally, a* a medium through which to obtain the latest
intelligence, the Georgian commends itself to a very exten
sive region of Georgia, nearly the whole of Florida, and a
considerable* portion ol South Carolina and Alabama. A
paper published in this city can give foreign accounts, New
York and New Orleans ootton markets, an l other telegraphic
reports, a day In advance of our Charleston cotomporarles.
To this we may add. that In future, steamship* from Now
York and I'hFadelphia will furnish us twice or threo times
each week, nowspaper accounts from tho North a day in ad
vance of the land mail.
The Savannah Georgian. Dally, Tri-weekly and Weekly,
will continue to be published at the following reduced rates:

The Indies’ Department is under the immediate supervi-
slon of that accomplished ladv. Mrs. Jan* Matthews, so well
known to the old patrons of tho establishment
The facilities which this institution offers for the prosecu
tion of a strictly hydropathic and hygienic course of treat
ment. together with its easiness of accesn from all points in
Georgia, and the adjoining States, renders it peculiarly
adapted to the want* of invalid*, desirous of availing them
selves of the efficacy of the water-cure.
The purity ot tbo water and accommodations for guests,
are too well known to need comment.
In filling up the establishment no expense has been spar
ed that could conduce to make it one of the most desirable
places of resort for invalid* in the United states.
I’ationts will be required to furnish their own nut-fit.—
These will consist of friction shoot* nnd towels, compresses,
and blanket*, for sudorific purposes. All of which can bo
purchased here on the most reasonable terms.
