Tire lavannah Georgian.
Tin* Proprlator* hare tho pleasure of announcing that
they have associated with them, aa a Corresponding Kdl-
tor of the Geuryian. Mr. P. L. J. May, lata E'ltor of the
Oglethorpe Southern Democrat, who will devote hla entire
lima and talent* to the tnteraata of the paper. By thla ar
rangement the dull## pertaining to tho offlce will bo eo dl-
Tided, aa to enable u» to have elfoct ually canvassed not on
ly thla but the several adjoining Slate*. Thla service la aa*
mined by Mr. May, aa a matter of preference with lilmj
and of aatlafaction to ua. Ida acquaintance extending to
nearly every county In Georgia. to a Urge portion of Ton
nes###. to Alabama, and to Florida, peculiarly lit* him for
the work he ba* undertaken. Mr. May will take charge of
all buainea* out of the city—will caovaaa for the paper,
receive aubacriptlon. and collect the duea of the office—
report all matter* of general interest which may be pre
sented to hi* notion— correspond aa occAnion and interest
require, and in short, will combine bl* exertion*, physical
and meutal, with oura. to give attract!veneaa to the columns
and extend the circulation of the Oeorpiun.
Of the intellectual qualification* of Mr. May it la scarce
ly necessary for u* to speak. Tho ability which character-
lied the Editorial department of the Southern Democrat
during the two and a half yean that he waa connected with
it, {■ a sufficient guarantee of hit capacity.
To the buslne-s* men of Savannah we confidently look
for an Increase of advertising patronage. Unless mistaken
In our calculations, our association with Mr. May, In con
nection with our arrangements, which we are now mak
ing, will constitute the Georgian the belt vehicle for adter-
tit.ments within their reach We expect to send It, not
only into every town, village and neighborhood in Georgia, but
to every (mint In the neighboring States, which railroad
and steamboat have opened to the trade of the City.
The fccliug* of pride with which Mr. May has for yepra
contemplated the progress of the Seaport of hi* nntive
State, a feeling which lias frequently found expression in
the coIjiuiis of the SonMem Democrat while under hia
charge—i* the best assurance that nothing he can do will
b» wanting to bring trade to Savannah—especially to those
whose advertisement* appear in this paper. So that while
nn agent for us ho will at the name time be a moat efficient
adroexte. wherever he goe*, of the interest* of the City,
*nd of those of it* business men whose names appear in
our columns.
The political principles of the Georgian will of course
continue to be those of the Democratic school ; though
politic* will play a part in it* columns altogether subordt-
ii*le to its new*, business and commercial character. To
its commercial department, especially, will the most assid
uous attention continue to be given. The reputation which
it ba* already established for the accuracy, fullness and
clearness of it* cotton table*, cotton statement* and mar
ket report*, it shall be our endeavor to Increase and extend.
Kin illy, a* a medium through which to obtain the Inteat
intelligence, the Georgian commends itself to a very exten
sive region of Georgia, nearly the whole of Florida, and a
considerable portion ot South Carolina and Alabama. A
psper published in this city can give foreign accounts, New
York and New Orleans cotton market*, and other telegraphic
reports, a day tn advance of our Charleston coteinporarics.
To this wo may ndd. that in future, Hteanishlpa from New
York and Philadelphia will furnish ua twice or three time*
each week, new *|>aper accounts from the North a day in ad
vance of the land mail.
