Commercial Convention.
Chahlkston, April 10.
Tho Hoiithern Commercial Convention oxsemblcd
hero to-day at 11 o’clock. Tho Mayor appointed n
temporary Chairman, and decided the Convention to
bo strictly an adjourned assemblage from Memphis.
Tbo Hon. Wm. C. Dawson was Invited to take the
Chair aa permanent President. A Committee subse
quently nominated Mr. Dawson, together with thir
teen Vice-Presidents, snd the same number of Secre
taries, being one from each Stato represented.
After tho appointment of n Committee consisting
of three from each Stato to prepare business for the
action of the Convention, an adjournment was moved
until to morrow.
There aro 15 delegates present from Maryland, 130
from Virginia, 300 Irom Tennessee, 40 from Georgia,
from Louisiana, 22 from North Carolina. South
Carolina is largely represented, 7 from Mississippi,
Lcslio Combs from Kentucky, 17 from Alabama.

The Convention has been occupied with resolutions
relating to the Pacific Railroad and direct trade with
Europe. Messrs. JoncB, of Tennessee, and Albert
Pike, of Arkansas, upoko upon the resolutions. The
latter denounced the idea of placing any rellunco up
on the actiou of Congress favorable to the construc
tion of the Road. The resolutions were referred to
tho general Committeo, who will report thereon to
morrow, whereupon the Convention adjourned at
noon.
