Oglethorpe Southern Demoerat. who will devote hla entire
tiino and talenta to the intereata of tho paper, By this ar
rangement tho dutlea pertaining to tho oftlco will ho ao di
vided, nflo enable na to havo effectually oanraaaed not on

turned by Mr. May, aa a matter of preference with hint’
•nd of satisfaction to ua. Ula acquaintance extending to
nearly every county In Georgia, to a large portion of Ton-
ne«MO. to Alabama, and to Florida, peculiarly tits him for
tho work he haa undertaken. Mr. May will take charge of

•nd mental, with oura.to give attractirenea* to the columua
•ud extend the circulation of tho Georgian.
Of the intellectual qualification* of Mr. May it ia scarce
ly necessary for ua to speak. The ability which character-
ire I the Editorial department of the Southern Democrat
during the two and a half years that he was connected with
it. I- a sufficient guarantee of Ilia ca|>aclty.
To the buainc'aa men of Savannah wo confidently look
for au increase of advertising patronage. Uuleaa inUtakeu
!n our calculations, our association with Mr. May, in con
nection with our arrangements, which wo are now mak
ing will constitute the O-nrgian (Ac bek vehicle for adver
ts until within tholr reaoli We expect to eend It, not
enlv into entry (nua>. village nail nWgfcborAood in Georgia, hut
to erery point in the neighboring Slates, which railroad
•nd steamboat have opened to tho trade of the City.
The feelings of pride witli which Mr. May lias for yenra
routeinplatod tho progress of the Seaport of his nutivo
State, a feeling which has frequently found expression In
tho columns of the Southern Democrat while under hia
charge—is tho best assurance that nothing he cau do will
be wanting to bring trade to Savannah—especially to tlioso
whose advertisements appear in tills paper. So that while
an agent for us ho will at tho same tinio be a most elllciunt
advocate, wherever he goes, of the interests of the City,
and of those of its business men whose names appear in
our columns.
Tits political principles of the Georgian will of course
continue to be those of the Democratic school; though
politics will play a part in*tts columns altogether subordi
nate to its news, business and commercial character. To
it* commercial department, especially, will the most assid
uous attention continue to lie given. Tho reputation which
it lias already established for tho accuracy, fullness and
clearness of its cotton tables, cotton statements and mar
ket reports.it shall ho our endeavor to increase and extend.
illy, aa a nn-liutiPtli rough which to obtain the latest
intelligence, Hie Georgian commends Itself to a very oxtan-
tivo region of Ueorgia, nearly tho whole of Florida, and a
considerable portion ol South Carolina and Alabama. A
