The feelings of pride witli which Mr. Mat lias for years
contemplated the progress of the Seaport of his native

columns of the NouMem Democrat .while under his
charge—is the best assurance that nothing lie cau do will
be wanting to bring trade to Savannah—especially to those
whose advertisements appear in thla paper. So that while
an agent far ua he will at the same time be a most efficient
advocate, wherever ho goes, or the interest* of the City,
id of those of its business men whoso names appear in
our columns.
Th* political principles of tho Georgian will of course
eostinuo to be those of the Democratic school; though
politics will play a part in its columns altogether subordi
nate to iU nows, business and commercial character. To

nous attention continue to be given. The reputation which
it has already established far the accuracy, fullness and
clearness of it* cotton table*, cotton statement* and mar
ket reports,It Shall bo our endeavor to increase and extond.

*ive region of Georgia, nearly tho whole of Florida, and e
considerable portion ol South Carolina and Alabama. A
paper published in tills city can give foreign accounts, New
York aud New Orleans cotton market*.and other telegraphic
reports, a day in advance of our Charleston coteinporarie*.
To this we may add. that in future, steamships from Not
York and Philadelphia will furnish us twlco or three times
each week, newspaper accounts from tho North a day in ad
vance of tho land mail.
