Of the Intellectual qualification* of Mr. Mat it Is scarce

tlie business* men of Savannah wo confidently look

nection with our arrangement*, which we aro now mak-
rill constitute tlie Georgian the bat vehicle fur culver-
tit'mcnli within their roach Wo expect to send It, not
nto every town, village and neighborhood in Georgia, but
to every point in the neighboring States, which railroad
;td steamboat have opened to the trade of the City.
The feelings of pride with which Mr. Mat has for years
contemplated tlie progress of tho Seaport of his native
flute, a feeling which has frequently found expression in
columns of the Southern Democrat while under his
rgo—is the best assurauce that nothiug he can do will
be wanting to bring trade to Savannah—especially to those
a advertisements appear In tills paper. So that while
an agent for ua he will at the name time be a most efficient
Ivocste, wherever he goes, of the interests of the City,
id of those of its business men whose names appear in
ir columns.
Tli* political principles of the Georgian will of courso
continue to be those of the Democratic school; though
politics will play u part in its columns altogether subordi
nate to its news, business and commercial character. To
it* commercial department, especially, will the most assid-
attention continue to lie given. The reputation which
it lias already established fertile accuracy, fullness and
dearnesa of it* cotton tables, cotton statements and mar
ket reports, it shall ta> our endeavor to increase and extend.
Finally, as a medium through which to obtain tli" latest
intelligence, tho Georgian commends itself to a very exten
sive region of Georgia, nearly tho whole of Florida, and a
ronsidcrable portion ol South Caroliua and Alabama. A
paper published in this city can give foreign accounts, Now
