30th day of September next, for furnishing and delivering,
free of all cost and risk to the United States, at the follow

One-third of said beef and j>ork must bo be delivered at
each of the above named yards respectively by the first
day of February. 1865 ; one-third by the first day of April.
1855 ; nnd the remaining one-thiril by the thirty-first day
of May, 1855. unless earlier deliveries should lie required
by the chief of this bureau. Payment to be made within
tliirtv days after delivery.
Bidders must specify their prices separately and distinct
ly in separate offers for the beef nnd for the pork, and for
each of the places of delivery, coverlug nil expenses and
all charges.
The beef must bo from well fuited cattle, slaughtered
between the first day of November. 1864. and the first day
or January, 1865, and weighing not loss than six hundred
pounds, net weight, oncli. The legs and leg rands of the
hind quarters, and the stilus and shoulder clods, the shoul
ders of mutton nnd ends of sticking pieces, nnd at least
eight pounds from the neck end of each fore quarter, iu
the parts marked Nos. 1 2. 3.4 nnd 6. on the drawing or
delineation of the fore and hind quarters of nn ox, which
will be attached to nnd form a part of the contract, which
be wholly excluded from ench bnrrel. nnd the remainder or
the carcass, instead of l»elng cut with a cleaver, must he
cut through with a saw nnd knifo. to give the meat n
square, neat, nnd smooth appearance, in pieces of not less
than eight pounds.
The jmrk must bo packed trorn corn-led. well-fattened
hogs, slaughtered between the first dav of November. 1854
and the 1st day of January. 1855,euch. imd weighing not less
than two hundred pounds ench. excluding the heads, jolus
necks, shoulders, hams. legs, feet, butts, lard, nnd,all refuse
piuccs ; and must be cut with a saui amt knife, in pieces
weighing not lees than six pounds oach.
Both the beef and pork must be salted with at least one
statute bushel of Turk's Island, Isle of May. or St. Ubes
salt; and the beef must Imvo five ouncesof fine pulveri
zed saltpetre toeuch barrel.exclusive of a pickle, to be made
from fresh water as strong as salt will make it. nml must
be perfectly bright and clear.
E-ncli barrel must contain full 200 pounds net weight ...
beef or pork.and no excess of weight in either article will
be paid for.
The barrels must lie entirely now. and be made of the
best seasoned heart of white onk staves and headings ; the
staves to bo not less than live-eighths of an inch thick, nnd
the headings not less than three-fourths of an inch
thick ; they must bo three-fourths hooped over, including
the iron hoops, with the best white oak or hickory hoops,
and each barrel must hnve on it four iron hoops—viz: one
le and a half inch in width on each bilge, and one ol
one and nn eighth inch In width on ench chime, and each to
be of the one sixteenth of an inch thick. Elnch bnrrel
must bo of the internal capacity of thirty-two gallons.
