1. for the promotion of Art, Mechanical Ingenuity and
Industry, will be held at the New Hall, now being erected
uu Meeting street. In the city of Charleston, conitnencing
on Wednaday. 16th of November, and continue ojieu (or
exhibition until 29th day of November.
Suitable premiums will be given to the best specimens in
art, mechanism and other branches of industry ; also, of
cotton, rice, sugar, tobacco, corn, wlrtat, rye. oats, poti
toe*, and other agricultural products.
The ladies, to whom the Institute lias been so much in
debted, are respectfully informed that suitable premiums
will be provided by the committee, and awarded to the
best specimens in every department of ladies’ work.
The following specimen premiums are offered:
The lurgest quantity of Cocoons, raised on one planta
tion, not lean than ten bushels—a silver pitcher, or $50.
For the largest quantity of Spun Silk, the produce of any
one plantation, not less than ten pounds—a silver pitcher,
or $60.
For tho best improved Sea Island Cotton Gin, on
now principle, superior to those now in general use, for any
real or important improvement thereon—a gold medal

The Directors of the Institnte take great pleasure in stat
ing to the public, that by the liberality of the State and
City to this Institute, they have now in course oi erection,
to be completed by tho 1st July next, and in ample time
for the approaching Fair, a large. cOmmodiuK and elegant
building, capable of holding in its main hall 3500 persons;
nnd also in connection with it a very well adapted and spa
cious machine Room, which will enable the Institute to
furnish sufficient power for any kind of machinery that
may - be offered for exhibition.
Every attention will be paid to all articles sent for exhi
bition.
All articles entered for premiums, must be sent in c..
before Saturday. 11th day of November next, directed to
tbe care of the Clerk of So. Carolina Institute. Charleston.
Articles may be sent after that day for exhibition only.
