Mr.RtilN commenced by saying that he sbonld

of the subject which had been discussed no ably by

phen* had held up, iu all lie hideous deformity, tbe
real character of the Know Nothing organisation,
while, at the same place Gov. Johnson bad shown
by unanswerable argument Ik great danger to tbe
South. He would speak of the origin, comiKuilim,
and abjtctu of tbe l'arty, hoping thereby to place
lu character, io dangerous to our beat and highest
interests, In a clear light.
1st. Its History.—In this part of his subject Mr.
Stile* gave a clear and most Interesting synopsis of
the Auti-Rlavery movem-nt from the admission of
Mi-aoori to tbe present time. He showed the de
termination, the persistency, the fanaticism with
which the enemies of tho 8ooth had pursued their
pnrpoee- It waa all, however, in vain. Tbe love and
veneration for the Constitution, tbe sound Democratic
phalanx at tbe North and tbe wisdom and prudence
ol the Sonth, had baffled.all their eflort*. It waa at this
time that Know Xotbiogism arose. Rotten in a fair
battlo on tbe open Held tbo enemies cf tho Coustitu
tional rights or tbe Sonth had retorted to stratagem.
Know Nothlngism was tbe Wooden Horse of Anti'
Slavery fanaticism. Ry this, they sought to Intro
duce treachery and dlsaflectiou into our camp. By
this, tbey sought to array clan* against cIom ami
man against man, that triumphant on many a well
fougnt battle Held, we might, tike the Trojans of old
fall by stratagem into the bands of the enemy.—
Know Nothlngism, said Air. Stiles and he proved it
by undeniable citations, wa* from tbe hot-bed* of
Abolitionism in tbe North, which fact, should at
least excite tbe suspicion of tbe South.
2nd. It* Composition.—Ry the satno cleur and
undeniable citation*. Ur. Stiles, lu ibi* branch of hit
subject, showed the danger of this organization to
the South. Tbe principal officer* and leading sup
porter* of KnowNottilugism throughout tbo country
were Identified with the Anti-Slavery movement at
the North. The Abolitionist Wilson aud his con
freres were admitted to tbs Philadelphia Council,
while the Louisiana delegates were excluded. Tne
tame fact was proved by tbe recent election*. Every
Senator of the United States, every member of Con
gress, and every Governor at the North elocted by
tbe aid of Know Nothing votes, was a declared Freo
Soiler or Abolitionist.
3d. Its Objects.—Mr. Stllea here read from mi
im-ruas speeches of Wilson and others, distinguished
a* leader* of the K. N. Organization, showing most
conclusively,it* Anti Slavery character. Among it*
declared object* were the repeal of the Fugitive
Slave I^iw, Abolition in the District of Colombia,
rc|>eal of the Nebraska Rill, Ac. Tbi* was tho avow
ed programme of tbe founder* and leader* of the so-
called American party and ho would call u|>on
Southern men to pause before they affiliated with It.
Before concluding, Mr. Stiles alluded with great
forto to the religious Intolerance of tbe order, it*
proscription for rcllgion’H sake, tho preteoded fear
of tbe Pope! He alto subjected the claim of tbi*
siugular organization to the high title they had ar
rogated to themselves, to a most searching scruti
ny, proving incontestibly that, so far from being
truly American, it was anti-American in Us ob
jects, it* principles and Ha policy, and that tho only
true Araeilcau patty wa* the Great Democratic
party ol the Uoion.
Like his predecesnor, Mr. Stile* wa* greeted at the
clo*e of hia eloquent effort with three hearty and en
thusiastic cheer*.

my mind, to tho resolution or Congress Is, that It I*

ol tbe ofiico ol President; and vet the resolution of

preao'it it to the pubiio In the worst and most unfair
point of view—that of foreigners enjoying the emolu
