the revenue from tbe Cotton trade might be vastly
iucreased. To prove this, be considers—
First—Tbe auwunt of tbe refuse or tho cotton
crop. As uear as Cult be ascertained about &,000,000

product ot this land la a little over 300 Ibe. to the
um baled Cotton, making according to the author
of “Cotton is King.'’ in IMS, a total production ot
1,600.000,000 lbs. of baled Cotton. Now. ono pound
only of hated is obtained from three and one-third
pounds of tbe rough product. We have, then tbe
tollowiug statement of tbe cotton product of the
country To 1853.
