In tho fire ortho 3d Inst., which consum ed the brick building occupied by Mr. Juo. T. Thomas, opposite the Gas Works, in this city, was a safe ol . the above descriptions containing tho books, papers, and money of Mr. Thomas, and although tho building was defrayed, the said Safe sustained no injury whatever from tho Intense heat to which it had been exposed. On open ing the 8afe, the contents were found undisturbed, and in the same ordor and condition as wbeu placed there, excopt a slight discoloration to the projecting onds of a few papers, and the backs of ono or two of tbs books, caused by the steam generated iu the Safe, while at Ita greatest boat.
