Th omas, opposite the Gas Works, in this city, was a safe ot tho above descriptions containing tho books, papers, and money of Mr. Ihomas, and although tbe building was detroyed, the said Safe sustained no injury whatever from the intense heat to which it had been expose J. On open ing tho Safe, the coutenU were fouud undisturbed, and In tho same order and condition as when placed there, except a slight discoloration to the projecting ends of a few papers, and tho backs of one or two of the books, caused by tho steam generated in the Safe, while at its greatest heat.
