Tho governlag authorities of Mobile at the present time are In politics American—hostile, or course, to the “wild hunt for office)” and especially hostile to the introduction of partisan feelings into munioipal administrations. Hero is a resolution adopted by the Common Connoil of thatelty in July last, on motion of William E, Jennings—(mark the name) t Be it reiolved, That the Boards or Aldermen and Common Connell of the city of Mobile do not, hi their official capacity, recognise the ex istence of any of the pottiical partita of the country. So much for their (kith; now for their pne tico.' This same board, sometime, Blnce, engaged the services of Judge MoKfnstyy for the codi fication of tho laws of Mobile Compensation $1500. Hohasonly got Ihirly under way with the job when.his labors are arrested by the fol lowing billet, signed Wii. E. Jbnkinos, afore said. It carries with it its own comment: “Mobile, Sept. 8,18jj Aitx. McKinttry—Dear Sir: The Under signed members of a special committee ap pointed by the Boards of Aldermen and Com mon Chuncil, to employ a person to digest and codify the Laws and Urdinances of tne City of Mobile, selected yon to perform that duty, under a conviction that yon were n member In good faith of the American party, and pledged to the support of its nominees for office: but having learned since that yon have abandoned Letter and Patriotic Campaign Hong from atOld Una Houtlurii Whig, Bbvbub Hovsb, Boston, I Beptlfi, 1850. f TV Me Editin' of the Button Daily Timtt: It wds my good fortune to attend tho meet ing of tho Democratic State Convention of tho Bay Stuto, at tho hcautllhl city of Sprhigllehl on Wednesday last, 1 was courteously iniiikcil on the railroad tu nod from Springfield, uud, as a member of editorial corps, was, with equui courtesy, admitted .to the iloor or the elegant and Bpaotoua hull In which the Convention met, and to a seat at tho rouorturs' table. The speeches outlie occasion evinced u high order of talent mid popular eloquence, mm tho wholo proceedings of tho Convention were characterized by such a noble and patriotio spirit, uud were so rcplcto with nationalism aud milonlsm, that they fired me with a oontugious on husiasm, and caused me, in tlie forcible although quaint phrase of one of the spealters on thu plutform, or Presi- dent’s stand,II to thrill from tho longest hnir of my head to tho bool of my foot.” On my way liuok to Boston, ill ono of tho casroftho accomodation night train, 1 roll In with n self-constituted Bnclimmn Glee Club, Who made the roorofthe'ear, if not the welkin, ring witli their humurous mid patriotic min strelsy, and extended to me many marks of courtesy und goud loeling. In the glow or tho moment, kimllcas alike by patriotism and uy song, I promised the mnslcul party to com pose for them a Buchanan Campaign Song, and the subjoined verses urc uu efl'urt to re deem my pledge—they being partly original und partly a parody of tho Augusta (Uu.) When niysignuture Is seen, 1 trust, that my patriotio demoeratiu friends will peroolvc the mason aud the Ju tificationof my ignoring Fillmore,in tho triangular contest uow waging for the Presidency, so fur us thn suhluined snug is concerned. The grant ohjeut in view, with all true-hearted nnd national patriots, is to de feat Fremont, who ia s,riving to find, und oven to hew out a path to tho Presidency, by sec tional means nnd applla-ccs, dangerous to tho peace and oven the existence of the Union: and while, us a Southern Old Lino Whig, null as a personal acquaintance aud friend, 1 have a irefereuco for Mr. Fillmore, as ono who bos eon already tried, already weighed in the balance und not found wanting, yut in view of thodofeut of the Blackllepnklicitn candidate, who would ignobly buy the Presidency by in fidelity to the Constitution aud treason to his section—who has become a Southern renegade to purchase Northern and sectional support for the Presidency—it is comparatively indiffer ent to me whether Bitohauan or Fillmore (who represented in our offiotal capacity, we ask that you decline the appointment that we mado under a mistaken view , of your position: and thus enable ns to do jnatice to onr own reelings, and lull justice to those whom we represent in our official acts. Wm. E. Jennings, Geo. A.Ketcbom.” We can readily appreciate the dieinclinatit n of the Republican to touch what It Is pleased to term the "anUqultiee” of the Georgian, which antiquity is of two years’ standing. It, however, does not deny the charges contained in oar article of yesterday afternoon ,oa In troth it could not, being a simple statement of facts—demonttrabte fact!. Well! we do not like to push onr neighbor too hard; yet, if the editor wore not here at the time alluded to, he should bo extremely cantiona how ho re fers to thoso times “ancient,” to those who wish to forget them—hot quite green in onr memories. The first election in the city in which the Know Nothing patty of Savannah cast their vote, os a parly, was in Decembor 1865, two years ago. If I do go for Fillmore, it id not that I lovo Buchauau less, but that I lovo the patriotio Ex President more; aud, ehmMd Old Buck be elect* eft by tho people, (and liuink hia chance tho bent of the three for the result,) 1 certainly will not be found among Pill-mourners, in that eveut, but, on tho contrary, will he fouudamoug those who will hail it with demonstrations of joy, as auguring peace to the Republic and per petuity to tbe union. The spirit, which prevailed in the late Mas sachusetts Democratic State Convention, is tho spirit of nationality, and uuion, which should strike the respousivc chord of sympathy iu every patriotic heart The groat principle, de veloped in their speeches and enshrined in their resolutions, is that of tho co-equal sovereignty aud co-equal rights ot the several States as members of a Confederated Republic and a National Union. Without farther preface, tho subjoined verses are placed at your disposal, ns claiming no high er place than the corner of a newspaper, and no higher mluistrelsy than Hint of the Ruclmnan Glee Clubs, which may deem them worthy of acceptance.
