Bo superior is the dark lantern, culvert system of.tho Know No thing to the old fashioned ways of Democracy, Three Partlee Iu I£nn»u«. A Kentuckian and a Minister of tho Gospel writes to his brothor, .living iu Uuisvillc, Ky (j from Kansas, a* follows: Conservative men everywhere should kuuw that Knuso-s is divide into threo parties: 1. Ab"litionists of the Garrison stamp, who trample .upon the Constitution nud tho Bible, and join iu bauds to waraude through tho Ter ritory. 2. Moderate Free State men, who uphold Lhv Constitution, and hecauso theyrefuso to Imvo their homes ami joiu tho armed Abolitionists, aro actually driven into Missouri by men who irofess to bo seeking tbe .same object, their torses atoicu and their houses pillaged. J. Pro-slavery men, tho greater part oi whom dcsiro peace, but yet are gouded to detenniued revenge by tho memory ot long years of Aboli tion agression. Tim advent of Lane’* armed men was tbe signal for the Abolitionists, with all tho outlun-t, iu the country under them, to commence their depredations almost simultaneously upon a Georgian colony—upon Treadwell’* settlement and the town ot Fruukliu. Then began the ex traordinary impressment of Free State men—a spcctaclo that should startle the North. For proof seo tho affidavit of .Martin White, a free Stuto mail in Kansas, and formerly a member of the Illinois Legislature. He, un old man, shouldered hi* rifle undjuught by the side of pro- slavery men at Ossawatomic, on tho Both Aug. Upon one of twenty Abolitiopiats killed he found his sou* boots, and aho recovered two of his horses. Ho regards it a* a signal protection of Provideuco that not a solitary pro-slavery mau was killed. Tho conservative Free Stulo meu now sec clearly that Abolitionism is us de structive to tho North as to the South. Hun dreds of them aro now receiving the, hospitalities of tho border Missouriuns, uud uro imploring the latter to go in and us*iit in putting down the marauders. Mii.d Punishment for a TRURtnr.it Ciumh.— Two men, named Cassils, havu been sent to tho State Prison for two year*, for placing obstruc tions upon tho track ortho Galena and Chicago Railroad. Substitute foh Rosin.—HerrFodor.n chem ist, has discovered a new composition to super sede tho rosin generally used by violin players. It Is applied by means of a camol’a lmlr brush, and remains good during one hundred hours* playing, and hus no evil effect upon either the strings of the Instrument or the hairs of the bow, and is also said to give n clearness to tho tone. she uud her husband were neither young nor madly atlauliud to the pleasure of tho world* they left the metropolis to spend the remuntr of their days in seclusion, without a single mur mur uguinnt tbe dispensations of Hint Provi- dotii'o lliat had llmsafllictcd Hieiu. Fanuy Clinton when removed from town was about twelve years old, excecdiuly pleasant and engaging in her manners, sensible and gentle natured. She certainly merited all the mdulgeuciCM wi th which the wu* treated by her parents and frieuds. Rut her parents were alnioat too loud of her—too fond for their own felicity, for while they loved her to a censurable excess, their fear« uud anxieties were beyond expression. Their house was located in a populous vil lage, but it stood ut u distance and remote from the fashionable port of it. Fur fiom bei tig displeased, however, with the privacy of his situation, it was on that very account the more agreeable to him, for ho desired not a great deal of society, ns he did not now live in the stylo to wh ich he had been accustqincd ; with a few sober regular people like themselves ho nud Mrs. Clinton chiefly associated iu u neigldxiriy way, with out ceremony or ostenta tion, and were determined not to he drawn out by the quality. They might have been visit ed by half tbe village, had they given cards They were much respected indeed by those who had, and those who had not route by the former, they could tint beloved, but were aat- iMled with tlie respect and esteem of thu lat ter. After having lived very happily for live years ut the village, the mldreaso* of a young gentleman to Fanny were accepted, aud afford ed them much pleasure. Mr. Mubiey was a man of an unexceptionable character, but pos sessed of only a Hindi fortune, yet a* lie was desperately, but virtuously In love with Fanny aud gently ufluicdto inurry her without ushili Ing down, both Mr.ami Mrs. Clinton regarded hlm.Hsaiicqiit*ilion, ami anobjoot not to be discarded. This nuhoped-lor eveut hud such an uflecl upon Mr*. Clinton, that she was completely transformed into another beiug. Shu was uud- donJy seized with a violent desire to return to her o id neighborhood, that those who had with malicious compassion triumphed over heron being obliged to retire, might bo mortified by beholding her once again in a position equal to the showy one in which site figured before. Mr. Clinton, having a stronger and more philosophic midoratuuding, was not so eluted with his unexpected success as to indulge the desire of again launching out into his former style of living. On the contrary, lie took no small pains to drive out of Mr*. Clinton’s head the magnificent .-clicinc* which had intruded themselves into it. Hut how little do we know cvcu of ourselves! I)y the death of n distant il lativeu lew week afterwards, Mr. Hinton very unexpectedly- they had not for many years been on good terms—cuuiu into the possession of .1 fortune more than double his prize. This acquisition coming so mmiii after Hie other completed the downfall of hi* philosophy, and lie .-ouii began to fed the lilting flame which he had **• strenuously endeavored to ex tinguish iu the IwsoM or hi* ambitious wilo burning iu Ills own breast. The rage for up- pmrnncv, though they were both 011 the sha dowy side of forty, miiiu.ited them to tuidi a degree that from that moment they thought uud dreamed of nought but pomp, parade, equipage uud state.
