Mu. meeting, that lm. been heralded far nad near for weoka upon week., and whioh It wan supposed would rarolationiie Georgia, Stir op every Southern State, and mike MR ltd Fillmore, the unanimously elected Presi dent, hu been Infnll blast hen sinoe yesterday •rasing. From the pnpwatkra. made it was sup posed that from thirty to Ally thousand people were to be present; all the adjoining States were ogpected to send their delegations—and Tennessee was to send down Senator John Bell, the renowned I Zolllcoflerl—the tremen dous Haskell, and Alabama was to have its Jere’ Clemens I But lo I and behold from the valley of the Mississippi uo pilgrim appeared In relate the trinmpha of Sam in that region, and it was sbrawdly suspected that Belshazzar like they had seen the fatally prophetic hand writing on tha wall, and were trembling to such snextontfor their own country they could not think of leaving to come to Georgia already by very demonstration and indication hopelessly gone for Buchanan. They were wise. Nor did Olemenscome, Shrewdly guessing that It would be time wasted, he stayed at home to attend to his own aflhln. WeU I suppose you waut to know who was thorn, if these big guns were’nt, Well there was Mr. Rans Wright, Mr. Ben HIU, Mr. F. S. Bartow. Mr. H. W. HlUlard, of Alabama, aud Mr. U. V.M. Miller. Probably you would like to know where thejieopie came from. It will lie easy to tell you that. Nobody stall scarcely came from Cherokee, muobto the disappointment of the State Railroad mans' gen, who bad made extensive preparations' But the Fillmore party of Newton, Henry Troup and Monroe, together with the residents of Atlanta, and a, goodly number of staunch Democrats—who bad come to see how Sam looked in these times with his dejected coun tenance and downcast eyes—constituted the grand overwhelming mass meeting of the Fillmore Party, Variously were the num- bera estimated—from three thousand np to ten thousand—though the disappointed Rail Road authorities put the crowd down a good deal lower. But I shall not underate them. They may have the benedt of a respec table crowd in numbers, though I could not help being amused at Dr, H, V. H, Millar when ha said in his speech: He thought til the Fillmore men in Georgii, must be present In AUantMIun. A eardonie grin passed over thaviaagaeof oa, who really were credulous enough to believe what the Dr. said. The Incident! of this great mail meeting were singularly uupropltlous, and to any body at all disposed to boilers in omens and signs, they must have read the fate of Sam in Georgiaandthe onion through theangurieawhleh seemed to foreshadow it. They undertook to ereot an Immense poU, over two hundred feet in height, and of tremendous weight. For days and days the busy Fillmore men wen raising this monomeni of roily, but with- .nut success. The first day of the meeting, to me king a last agonizing effort with the pole, the t.*hole concern came tumbling down; ind the first section (or u wss facetiously remark- ad by a friend, the Soulhtm half) broke off. With hope* blasted and pride humiliated, they concluded tb ey most be satisfied with not reach- leg so high! and they raised a pole about 130 or 140 feet to height. A Roman would have sngnnd that their aspirations to tench the highest place in the gorerument would he dis appointed by this sign. Today a moat heart-rending occurrence took place in the presence of assembled thousands, and which 1 allude to only with feelings of profound sorrow. Having succeeded to erect ing a polt, they started to hoist a flag upon it; hot the ropes in some way got entangled and a nan was dispatched up to remedy the iliffl- eulty, but he returned unsuccessful. But it was eVidcpt that the anticipated enthusiasm gone; and the feeble shouts and coarse ribaldry that were occasionally uttored by some thoughtless partisan seemed a sad mockery in the presence of that grief-stricken multitude, who had seen a poor fellow mortal so suddenly, aud without even u moment’s warning, hurried into eternity. Soon after this uccldeut til crowd repaired to the spot. In the vicinity of the town, where the stands for speaking wore ereetejd. The Bceue was a lively one. The ; place swarmed with men, wumeu and children, who clustered chiedy around the central platform, where Mr* Hilliard, of Alabama, was the principal speak er. We outside spectators did uot hear much of the argument, though those who did seemed to lie very well pleased. Occasionally, howev er, you could seo raauy, who were tirccl of the grave and heavy Hilliard, rush to the side stand at a little distance off, where Mr. Baus Wright, of Jefferson, was performing sundry comicali ties, much to tho merriment of tho spectators. His lugubrious visage aud fun making eye, to gether with the large quantity of hair, in which his features were enveloped, gave him a really comic almanac uppearunco. Being a good mimic, ho seemed to delight in imitating the shrill voice of Hon. Alexander H. Stephans, whom lie made the chief buttot his ludicrous performance. Among other extravagances of Mr. Wright, we could uot forbear smiling at the gravity with whioh he told the audieuco, that Mr. Buchunau would get but two Southern States.
