New York, Oct. 17.—Senator Bright, of in- d>na, telegraphs that the Democratic candi dates for state officers have been elected by 10,000’mqjority und that the Legislature and eight memoers of Congress are Democratic. Ohio Election. Cincinnati. Oct. 17—Ohio has elected 13 Black Republican and 6 Democratic members of Cougres3. [All the members of the present Congress from Ohio are either Know Nothings or Black Republicans.] Kaunas Legislation The Free Sailers in Kansu* confident of Fremont's success and a continuance of the power of the Black Republicans in Cougress,- conacious too perhaps of their own weakue.- and unwilliug to expose .it—allowed the late territorial election to go by default. The re sult is the ro-eiectiou of Whitfield and a pro- slavery legislature. Their plan was, with a free-soil President ami free-soil Honsc of Re presentatives to force an admission of Kansas into the Union under the fogus Topeka con stitution—with Joine and Reeder as United States Senators. Wo shall look with mvh interest to the action of the uew.’y elected Kansas territorial legislature. Some of the laws paved by it- predecessor were outrageously har.-b in their provisions. So much so thatthe c.>ca.ivalivtB in Congress would have repealed tiiem Lut that they were prevented by the Fremontcrs—to whom these laws and the beating of Sumner constituted three fourths of their capital in trade. Now we hold that the friends of the Kansas Nebraska bili. North aud South, have a right to trek that these laws shall be so modi fied as to deprive them of their odious features Their fully is shown by the fact that they never have been enfotced, while they have brought odium upon their authors, and no little upon the bill under which Kansas was organiz ed as a territory. Fellow-Citizens:—Tho Democrttio Bute Central Committee of Pennsylvania cotigtath- lates tho people of Pennsylvania, and of all the states of the Union, upon tho unpieccdent- ed victory which has crowned our exertions. The 14th of October, 1860, will hencefor ward he memorable in mtr annals. Assailed front within by enemies of the Con stitution, and from witi. >ut by tho assailants ol our glorious confederacy, we have nobly tri umphed. .. Too much credit ea. mt bo given to tn<^ manner in which our • .gunzation has Ijeou perfected and curried ou. It is impossible (or language to convey tUo profound gratitude we entertain for ourgauuut and eloquent friends from other States wlio have come hither to nssist us in tills great struggle. But our duty is not fully discharged. We have utterly routed the enemies of our free institutions upou the sacr* d soil from which the Declaration of Independence was proclaimed, and upon which the Constitution of tho United States was adopted. Pennsylvania, the great barrier against which the waves of sectionalism have dashed, has maintained her proud integrity. While all the new wui Ul lias looked upou her—while all patriotic hearts have hoped that she would stand firm in the midst ot the terrible respon sibility imposed on her—she has preserved a uoblo modelation anduu iuexorable firmness. She has repelled from her presence the men .vho have beeu sent among her population, to deceive and betray them. Tlie great victory we have achieved has, first of all, sustained our illustrious and beloved Bach umu. Here.in his own State, the torrent o. fana ticism has beeu stayed. Here, where ho was born, and where he has lived a life of signal purity aud patriotism, he hits oee-u upheld by the proud and generous people of Pennsylvania. The cnuubl ug sentiment of State pride lias done much for usiu this contest. Our people lmve responded to their glorious leader, to'hL history, and to the long list ot -crviccs which have immortalized his name; aud from this day heucelorth it will bo some thing to say that a Pennsylvanian, true to his country nud trite to hiiusclf, will uot waut or wait lor friends among his leilow citizens. The Platform of the Democratic National Convention, upou which Jumes Buchanan -iaiids, has been vindicated; the great pridci pic of popular sovereignty udvocated in every school, district, and township in the State, dui- itig this fearful conflict, has beeu vindicated, aud the aspersions upon his character have Iwcn refuted and trampled under feet And the proud honor of achieving this splen did result belongs not to the old Democratic party alone, which, with reanimated vigor, en tered into the contest and persevered to the end, but we are glad to acknowledge that it lias been shured by thousands of national Whigs who have assisted us with all their ouergies, and who are henceforth to be counted as our brothers, and our compatriots. From this day till the 4th of November, I860, let meetings be held in every School Dis trict and Township in the SL-itc. Let us keep up the fire which now burns so brightly. Let us uot be deceived by the idea that the opposition will be divided. Fused on the 14th of October, and confused by the tremendous aud memorable rebuke they have received, for trying to deceive the people of the State, they will seek to shelter themsel ves by another combination in November. They ure enemies to us and to the Constitu tion alike; no matter what name they bear, or under what flag they rally. Those who have professed to bo national have sunk their nationality in an eager desire to defeat the only National Party in exis tence; and those who were sectional have at tempted to postpone or to apologise for their sectionalism in order to win n guilty vic tory. Unce more the Democratic State Central Committee appeals to the National people ol tne State t-J maintain their organization, and to continue the work so nobly finished on the Jth day of November, 1856. ng a gaibln hh left'; arm w*r : A, U ^^.^re by thiWriof the dfiow.rifle wo* genUetMto af ample will be tolil uoli*re tin Con fortune, end no roeton I. given for Ibe not Tbo raloldn neemi to lure beeu contemplated the decanted hwlng nude bfo will end ap pointed hla executant • few day. Mr. Fillmore • Acceptance of the Nation nl Whig Nomlimtlon. Buffalo, N. Y.Oct.l. Hun. Edward Bate.-*—Sir : Your letter of the ISthuit., came to baud day before yester day, informing me that at a general Conven tion of the Whigs of the United States, held at Baltimore on the 17th and 18th of the present month, I was honored by that convention by t.eing chosen with one voice as their candidate for the Presidency. Whilst some of my old Whig friends, whom I have always highly respected, and whose patri otism I am unwilling to doubt, are opposed to my election, and ure engaged, some on the one side aud some on the other, of political par ties which are sowing the seed of alienation aud distrust betwecu different sections of our common country, and waging a sectional war fare tending to weaken, if not destroy the Un ion of tiie.-e States, it Is a source of inexpress t.ie gratific ition to m**to receive the unanimous uomiiiviti m of the great representative body of the uati m.t:i! Whigs of the United States—no ie.-sdistingm-hed lor their intelligence than for their patriotism—uud I cheerfully accept it with the profound emotions of gratitude and pride. Although I am the known candidate of anoth er party, yet 1 can seo nothing dishonorable in receiving the support of all Union loving men, by whatever political denomination they may lie known : but I confess that 1 receive this flattering testimonial of the continued con fidence iu my f&reonal integrity und patriot- i-m of my oul Whig friends, with much more than ordinary satisfaction; and I trust that, if elected. 1 shall do nothing to disappoint the hopes or dishonor the preference oftnese who have so gcnerosly bestowed their confidence. With renewed expressions of my high re spect for yourself, personally, and my venera tiou for the intelligent and patriotic body over which you presided, I am, sir, Your friend uud fellow citizen. The subject of trustees for the Kobn legacy of ?1011,000. was then brought forward. Both South Carolina and Pennsylvania claim a right to the disposition of the matter. The former .State founds her claim upon the fact of the testator having resided within her limits for u long period, and the latter because he resided iu her territory a short time previous, and up to the hour of his death.
