ORDIN DICE.
Ordinance to increase toe salary of the Health
officer of the City or Savannah, and fix bU tecs
for boarding vessels and for giving a certificate
for health or permit to come to the city and dis
charge their loads, and for other purposes:
Whereas, from toe increased commerce of toe
P°rt of8avannab the duties of the Health Officer
has greatly increased, and the salary has not bee,,
creased during too lost thirty years :
Sec. 1. Be it ordained by too Mayor and Aider-
men of the City of Savannah and the Hamlets there
in in Council as embied, and it is hereby ordained
by tho authority of the same, That from and after
the rassago of this Ordinance tho salary of the
Health Officer be at tbe rata of five hundred dol
lars.
Sec. 2. Bo it further ordained by tbo Mayor aud
Aldermen of the City of Savannah and the Hamlets
thereof in Council assembled, and it is hereby or
dained by authority of the same, That tho fees of
the Health Officer (which shall be paid by the
owner, master, or consignee of any vessel) shall
bo as follows:
For boarding any vessel lying at the quarantine
ground, at Fort Jackson, two cents a ton up to 500
tons, beyond which no additional feo shall he
charged .In cose ofa visit at night the fees charge!
shall oe double tho preceedng; and all expenses
incurred for boarding any vessel shall be paid by
the Health Officer, except that the city will furnish
a quarantine boat.
For visiting and inspecting a vessel which has
been subjected to quarantine, and giving a permit
to cotne up to the city, five dollars.
Sec. 3. Be it farther ordained by tbe authority
aforesaid. That iu case it shall be deemed necessary
by the Health Officer to send a patient to tbe Peat
House from the vessel, R shall be clone by the
vessel’s boat, or at the expeuscor tiie owner, mas
ter or consignee of such vessel, under a penally, in
case or failure or refusal, or not exceeding ono hun
dred dollars, to be collected in the usual manner as
prescribed bv ordinance.
