tho books, caused by the steam generated in the
Sato, while at its greatest heat

may still be seen, In tbo possession of Mr. Thomas,

ORDINANCE.
Ordinance to increase the f a'ary of tbe Health
officer of tbo CUy of Savannah, and fix bis fees
for boarding vessels and for giving a certificate
for health or permit to come to the city und dis
charge their loads, and lor other purposes:
Whereas, from the increased commerce of the
E ort or Savannah tho duties of tho Health Officer
as greatly increased, and the Balary has not bco u
creased during tho last thirty years :
, See. 1. Bo it ordained by tho Mayer and Aldor-
mcn of tbo City of Savannah and tho Hamlets there
in in Council as embicd, and it is hereby ordained
by tbo authority or tho same, That from aud after
tho passage or this Ordinance the salary of the
Health Officer bo at tho rate of five hundred dol
lars.
Sec. 2. Be it further ordained by the Mayor ond
Aldermen of tbe City of Savannah and the Hamlets
thereof in Council assembled, and it is beroby or
dained by authority of the same, That the Tees of
ttio Health Officer (which shall bo paid by tbo
owner, master, or consignee of any vessel) shall
he as follows:
For hoarding any vessel lying at the quarantine
ground, at Fort Jackson, two cents a ton up to 600
tons, beyond which n» additional too shall bo
charged Iu case of a visit at night tho foes charged
sliall oe double the proceed ng; and all expenses
incurred for boarding any vessel shad be paid by
tbe Health Officor, oxcept that tho city will furnish
a quarantine boat.
For visiting und inspecting a vessel wbiclt has
been subjected to quarantine, and giving a permit
to come up to tho city, flvu dollars.
Sec. 3. Bo it fnrtnor ordained by tbo authority
aforesaid. That in case it shall bo doemed necessary
by tho Hoalth Officer to send a patient to tno Pest
Ilouso from tho vessel, it shall bo dono by tho
vessel's boat, or attbo expense of the owner, mas
ter or con.-ignec of such vessel, under a penally, in
case of failure or refusal, of not exceeding ono hun
dred dollars, to bo collected In the usual manner as
prescribed bv rrdiuonco.
