In Alabama, and through that unites with tho roads
in Virginia, Tennessee and North Carolina. It is
also an iudispcnsablo link in the line of Railways
that are to unite Charleston and Savannah, through
Montgomery, Vicksburg, Shrevenport and Ei Paso,
with the Pacific Ocean running its entire length on
the samo parallel of latitude with these places. It
is thus obvious that this Hue of work is one of the
moa important unfinished enterprises iu tho coun
try. It is thorough National in its character: lor
it unites Maine and New Orleans, and tbe Atlantic
and tbo Mississippi, by indissoluable bonds. But
whilst thus National, it appeals especially for aid to
Southern men and Southern enterprise, for when
completed, with the intermediate gapiu Alabama,
it will, with its connections, now built and being
built, run right through the heart of those great
Southern cotton-growing States, Louisiana, Missis
sippi, Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina, and
unites tbe great Inland sea with tbe broad ocean.
These facts are stated to call attention to this line
of road and to Induce capitalists and contractors, to
embark liberally in its construction, ibe fifteen
miles of completed Railroad, with its equipmeuts
ana sixty valuable slaves, mnuy of them mechanics,
is a bonus from the Slate of Mississippi; the public
land bos been donated by Congress ; and it is, per
haps, not greatly over-estimating tho preseut pro-
perty of the roudto put it at or near one miliiou of
dollars iu which sum future stockholders who may
become such by diroct subscription of money or
work, will bout ouco equally interested. It will
thus be seen that tills road presents peculiar in
ducements to meu of means to engage in its con
struction.
