The Loot Steamship* Navr You, November 15.—The losteteam- ship Lyonnais was valued at a quarter of a million in dollars. Among her missing pus- songsrs wsro albert Sumner, (brother of Sena tor dimmer,) and lady. One hundred and thirty persons sro missing,—all of whom, it ia feared, have perished, as the weather wus very boisterous the night of the accident. Tho steamer Marion has been chartered to proceed in search of the Lyonnais, which, her agenta believe, Is still afloat. At any rate, she may hear something of some of the missing passengers. The weasel with which the Lyonnais came in collision is supposed to bo a large American ollppar, which immediately disappeared after tho accident. New York Federal Office Holders, The Day Book is calling loudly for tho re moval of John McKoon, by the incoming ad ministration. Mr. HcKeon holds the locrative office of U. B. District Attorney forthoSouthem District of New York. HtsofAenoc is his bit ter opposition to the election of Wood, the re, goiarly nominated Democratic candidate for the Mayoralty of New York. We do not care to mix ourselves up with New York politics yet we are very much disposed to agree with the Day Nook,-that the gentleman in question should Eb made to walk the plank, And wo say more i—It would not be a bad idea if Mr,..BccI)anan should make a clean sweep sQbog tlio New York office holders. New York ought to boat this day as decidedly Democratic as her sister States, Pennsylvania and Indiana. And she would be but Tor the dligtacelhi squabbles which for so many yearn divided and weakened, and at length have ut- terly prostrated the party in that State. With Bach a record the Democratic leaden there have slight claims upon a Democratic National Administration. As regards the Custom House ia New York city, its officss are under no circumstances the peculiarly property of citizens of that State. It ia the comment of the Union—of the South, of tho West and North West, no less than of New York that gives employment to tho multi, tndinons boats or officials connected with that establishment. It Mr. Buchanan will follow ' our advice bo will discharge tho collector and go either to Indiana or Illinois—States that did something to elect him—for a successor to that functionary. The Post Oiflco being more of local character should perhaps bo Ailed by New Yorker. No such reason applies to tho Custom Houso. Tho distribution or its patronage will, wo trust, ho conlided to some staunch and reliable North Western Democrat. For tho rest we may remark, once aU, that We are in favor of rotation in office. Especially do we believe that this dootrine . should be applied in the Northern States; and thatitwlU have to bo applied there, olse the Democratic party will be defeated at each al ternate Presidential election- Here in the South, where there is little federal patronage, Democrats are such from principle, and work from pure devotion to their principles. In the North a largo number of tho most active, encr- getio and powerfol members of all parties are men who will not work' unless with a prospect of reward. Snell of this class as belong to the Northern Democracy had no Inducement to work during the late contest. The offices were all -filled, - and likely, in the event of a Demo cratic victory, to remain in the hands at the incumbents. Many of them, it is probable, were quite willing to seo their party defeated, tho officeholders displaced by men of another party, for whose places they might labor with the' hope of reward four yean hence. The next Democratic national convention must trace its platform by a new plank—rota- tian in office. It was a great oversight that it was not inserted in the last. Let Mr. Buchanan see to It, and, so far as practicable, repair the dsmago caused by this act of omission. Did not my perfect love, m faith, and trust, and sincerity, outweigh tlrel more glittering qualities? Perhaps 1 felt it then; and here to-day, when the years have made me older, and the world has made me wiser, I believe it from my ventdfeart! Our homo was a little paradise, close beside theses—a small, low-roofed, brown cottage, with a rustic porch and latticed windows over grown with climbing roses. The low murmer of the ocean soothed me into a happy sleep each night—the sweet song of tho swallow waked mo to a happy day eaclt morning. And here in tho pleasant summer time, my blue eyed boy was born and my cup of joy was full to running over. My boy, like nil other mother's boys, was beautiful. And yet hla loveliness made my heartache. So frail,so fair!—His calorics, waxen check, his slender form end largo and meianchotly blue ejes, fllled mo with a thou sand fears. How often have I bent ubovehim as ho laid upon my lap, and prayed with all a mother's earnesness that this life might be spared. It was a foolish prayer—an unwhe one—but then Iconldnot sceit! My very life seemed wrapped up in that of my babe. With him by mo every day I could not see him fading, and tho moaning sea could toll no tales. Bat now and then a shadow came over his father’s brow as he watched us, that not even my kisses could quite drive away I thought him growing stern and cold; hut, oh. t wronged him I Never had ho loved us both so tenderly before 1 Weeks passed on. My baby's eyes looked intelligently into mine, ana the little rosy lips smiled whenever I come near. But still those lisping utterances that thrill the heart ao deep ly were silent, and all my loving lessons fell on an unheeding ear. The shadow on Arthur's faco grew deeper as he watched my unceasing eflbrts.
