A Providence (B. Lj lady In writing to the Home Journal, Indites the following: “What a grand comedy it would bo If women could rote I How aptteiul they would get I bow excttedl how nervous! Aud just imagine* woman, here and there, carried away ftom toe S olis, on election day,ln hysterical forofcourse icy would be. They would dispute, and say things; and get to crying. I know it’s a way they have. Of ail the iwautirul ordalnings oi Divine Wisdom, notoiog seems to me more beautilbl than the strong wall built about wo men, by the respeot and reverence whloh good menace constrained to feel for good women. Even the advocates of* Woman’s Bights’ (most wrongly named) reap the advantages or this protection, on too principle that the.am shines Uke upon toe good and the evil. If enr that taction prevails in this laud of license miscall ed liberty, I intend to try to persuade my hus band to go to some other country, where too men an men, and toe women, are true to their loot and better natures. I like this town, for the old, sober, steady ideas that govern It I know learned women here—very clever women—who, exposed to too attrition of your clever New Tork society, would rival your own stars In brillianoy. But thenls aqulet here—a subdued tonelnaocial olrcles-that charmed me. Then Is no peoteo- tlonilts vulgarity Is recognised at a glance, and toe intolention that attackettln always fatal. Society baa been tnluencod hero by families who have known many generations of great wealth, by the shade and sunshine of in old University, and by the serious air which too descendants of Roger Williams and till Quakere wear like a second natun. IriWaysglvo usd money, or never esnd for It—lor, stn to tell, I have known such a soeietyas the last described. The toll for money-the eager, stri- vlog, sordid cmwd who ’make hast* ton* rich’ -I consider the greatest enemies to a foil, af- Suent, scullife, that toe world oanshow. Money Is a very good thing, if you have It—I can •newer to that j because of what It does, In ad vantages gained for social and literary cultiva tion or time, ease, aud tastes. But to* getting of money (with few exceptions) doe* ao dwarf •nd stultify the soul, that Ialwaya shrink ftom a community where it Is too prevailing passion. Bence I love the old towns, too oldculture, too old social life, of oh Atlantic dtii neighborhoods. Hence I love old in spite of its arrogance: Boston, at . r . A gnat deal might be said ih regard to toe Intention of too legiilature, In granting this aid, Md mom still about toe necessity of ma king a proper um of It; but to re-open con- troveny upon these questions at tola late day appears to us, not only out or place, but suici dal. The resolutions above mentioned are couched In language full or Jealousy and II- liberality, exhibiting a disposition on the part of oh Brunswick friends, todlspute every ad vancement mud* .by the Main Trunk, whether It brings to them the aid or the Btate, or not— Whether too Brunswick Company will endorse their reaeluthms, remains yet to be determined; but that tony were intended to defeat toe Main Tlftnk, there can bu no doubt. And to throw such an obstacle in too way to prevent the consammationof our long cherished hepes, at to* very rims oh whole section of country jteoiMdaewoll agreed upon* phut of adjust ment, is a strange freak in the policy of oh eastern friends. That they have made an at tempt to shackle oud bind ustlowu exclusively to the Brunswick in the East, as well as those in the West, an satisfied with toe sUiilra of toe two Uoad, they having elicited toe approba tion of the President of toe Brunswick and Florida Railroad more than once. It seems that the Barilla meeting could ar rive at no other couolnslon than that the Inte rests or Brunswick demanded a sacrifice of toe Main Trunk and that that sacrifice must be a violation, or alteration or its charter. It wa well known to the parties, that the Main Trunk wu compelleu oy its charter, to cross the Barilla Riverata certatu point,—aud that point wu sc located on the banks ortberiver, as to render it altogether impracticable to erase at any other, without an alteration or viola tion of Its charter. If the one course should be pursued, toe proceedings would be illegal and without protection—but irthe other, then, the subject must again go before toe Legist- lature to encounter Indefinite delay, if not total defeat lathis what oh Brunswick Road, alter so much anxiety and labor to obtain State aid, Is to be regretted. We ’ thought the friends or Brunswick, friends are trying to bring about ? Do they again wish to array all the opposition force against this section or toe State, that before twice defeated cur petition, and so nearly succeeded the third ? In their Jatilla meeting, they speak or petitioning the Legislature for aid to the Brunswick Read, In the event of foilure In formlog a Junction of too two Roads. Have they forgotten the severe ordeal they were compelled to pas* through in obtaining toe aid already iu our possession. Warrenton and Macon Uallroad. Ib Ms Editor of the Comtitutionalilt : Dsia Sin: I see that 1 am considered chair man of a committee of gentlemen of this place to open books for subscription for the Warren ton and Macon railroad. Whatever the other gentlemen may do, at present, I as an indivi dual, am nnwullug to ask the cltixens of Han cock to subscribe for this stock and for the fol lowing reasons: 1. Warren, Hancock, Baldwin and Jones, through which the road is maiuly to pass, could not build it If they would, aud if it is to be built, Augusta and Charleston must contribute most of the capital. 1. Should tots road be built, I tbink I can see Ohuleston will occupy at Macon, with regard to the South-western portion of Georgia, the 1 position she occupies at Atlanta, with re* to the trade of Tennessee and northern ' i, them she, I think, gets the Lion’s part, — standing Georgia-built toe road tram Atlanta to to* Tennessee river. 3.
