Articlo seventh provides that the commis- sioners shall meet stanch place or places as shall be hereafter fixed. After they shall be respectively named, and before proceeding to business, they Bhall make ana subscribe a solemn declaration that they will impartially andoarolhlly examine and decide upon all tbe mattera referred to them for their decision. It is of easy cultivation, being similar to that of maize of broom coru, but will prosper in a much poorer soil. A correspondent writing to the commissioner, speaks of the extraordinery richness and delicious flavor of the milk or cows which had been fed on flint description of food. Several gentleman have likewise recently ae* quainted the office with the fact of the success of the Liquorice Plant, which is hardly as far North as Connecticut. It is employed not only for medicinal purposes, butts au important element, they say, in preparing some of the best ale and porter in Great Britain Hkhi.Phiceh for Negroes.- Of tho sales of the^negroea belonging to the estate of Alexan der Moore, deceased, of Halifax county, shows that the prices were .almost unprecedentedly high. One man, aged 22 years, brought $1,466; another one. of tbe same age, $1,425; one 20 years old, $1,488; a girl, 17 years old, sold for $1,260; a boy* 9 years old, $900; one 10 years of age, $980. The number sold was forty*alx, varying in age from 4 to 75years. Tbe sum of the sales was $32,324, making an average of $703 70.—Danville (Ka.) /trghlrr. From Wukatland.--We have a few items ofinformation from Wheatland, on which, we havo reason to rely: Frst Mr. Buchanan has us yet invited no one to become a member of ids Cabinet, aud has not nude up his mind with reference to single member of it. Second. Mr. John Appleton, of Maine, is to bo the editor of the Washington Union. Third. Mr. Buchanan is uu earnest advocate of the election of John W. Forney, Esq., to the Senate of the United States. Fourth. Ho will leave Wheatland for this city shortly before the 1st of February. An Important Decision.—On tho 23d iu- stunt the Circuit Court for this District decided an important legal question, so far us the In* tercsts of tho Government ure concerned. LENNOX ON LAKE OMTA« rio.—Oswego. Dec. 24.—The Bchooner laonnox, which left Kingston three weeks since for Toronto, has not since been heard of, and all hopes of her safety are abandoned. In addition to her own crew of seven men, she had on board five sailors belonging to the schooner Locblel, who were working their passage to Toronto. All are supposed to be lost. The Tennessee Insurrection—Neu roes Executed.—Louisville, Dec. 24.—The Hop kin son (Tenn.) Mercury rays that Ned Jones, tho celebrated negro preacher here, has been put in jail by the Vigilance Committee. The free no- S o preacher, Sol. Yoang, was hung at Cadiz, y,, on Tuesday, and another was) hung at Pembroke on Wednesday last. Tbe Kansas Emigration, Ac.—8h Loafa, Dec. 24.—A letter from Westport. In the St. Louis Republican, says that Col. Buford pub lishes & statement showing his loss in the South* era emigrant enterprise to be upwards of $10,000. It is feared that the mails across the plains have been greatly delayed by the deep snow West. _ From Washington—Washington, Dec. 24— The House committee on naval affairs have concluded their report of tho bill for the amend* atory act to promote the efficiency of the navy precisely as It passed the Benate. A delegation of Kaw Indians, from Kansas, has arrived, but being without on interpreter were unable to make their business known to the Commissioner of Indian Affairs. Navigation Suspended.—Pittsburg, Dec 23.—The severe weather of last night has frozen tho Ohio, and completely closed the navigation. This evening the weather appears to be moder ating, though still cold. Steamer Sunk.—Cincinnati, Dec. 24.—The steamer Altamont was sunk at Marietta yester day. The cargo wlllprobably bo saved In a damaged condition. Tho boat is a total loss. New Orleans, Dec. 24.—The news from New York in relation to Gen.
