Saturday Stephen Burk*, alias Capt. Squib, was found guilty of cutting the tongue and lip of William Howey, and received fentenceof death, to be hanged. TucfiJay John Dwyer was found guilty of high treason, in levelling walls and hedges, and marching in a warlike manner with many others, and received fen* tence to be hanged and quartered. They are both to be ex ecuted on Thursday next at Burrofoleah, about 20 mile* from hence, and a place where they nfually rendezvoused* —They were conviAcd on the deareA evidence, and fd full* as left them no opportunity for pleading any defence. The judge expatiated largely and moA judiciously on the nature ofth cir crimes, and concluded, by recommending Aronglf to their superiors, to inculcate in the minds of thole uuhap py wretches, a proper obedience and thorough fenfeofthe happiness they may enjoy under so mild a government. Six more were found guilty of riots, and fcntenced to be whipr, two at a time, three market days, confined three months, and fined one mark each. About 40 of them remain in goal for trial, and we hear a special commission will be ob tained for that purpoi'e, after the return of the judges of the present circuit. Monday upwards of 20 men of wit and merchant ships belonging to the Spaniards, taken at the Havana at the time that place fur rendered, were condemned as lawful prizes to Sir George Pocockc's Beet, at Doctor's Commons. Ap rtl 4, Thursday the Trident man of war, purchased by Mcflrs. Hooke and Cos. fell down the Medway to come to London to be broke up. The Portland atShcernefs, and two other men of war at Plymouth, which are worn out, are purchased by the fame gentleman to be broke up. A great personage was on Friday night burnt in effigy ill divers parts of the town, with labels affixed to it, denoting the measure which drew upon him this insult. April 7. YeAerday a meflenger arrived from his Grace the Duke of Bedford, and it was reported a Aop was put to the reduAion of the French forces. If so, there may bo fome truth in the account of the Empress Queen's making a demand of fome territories in France. . April 9.
