As our American provinces have been at great expence during the war in cloathing and paying troops, that expence is to be brought to a national account, in order to make them (atisfadion. June 22. In this Gazette are addresses from the town and port of New Romney, the boroughs of Beverley, Bilhops- Caffle aud Monmouth, and the corporation of Bedford. The East-India Company have reduced the interest of their bonds from 5 to 4 per cent, to commence Dec. 31 next. Those who accept their terms mull carry their bonds to the India-house, to be marked, before Nov. the refufers will be paid principal and interest to the (aid Dec. 31. June 23. The rage of political dispute produced two or three duels last month, one between an Highland and an English officer, in which the former had the advantage, ano ther between two lea officers, and a third between one Mr. Pledger and an officer. There has also been a duel conse quent to a private quarrel between Capts. -Campbell and Roche, the latter of whom was much wounded. * ‘On the 18 th of May the foundation Hone of the new bridge over the Tweed, at Coldftream, was laid by the Earl of Home, in presence of the trustees for ere ding the fame, for • which the Parliament granted 4000 1. On the 2d inst. he set out from Potsdam on anew progress to his dominions upon the Rhine, and having in his way taken up Prince Ferdinand, with him he viewed the two fields of battle of Minden and Fellinghaufen, and ar nved at on the 6th, where he received a vilit from the Hereditary Prince of Brunswick, who had come from Aix-la-chapelle, to pay his refpeds to his Majesty, and was moft iffeftionitely reaived. A letter from on board the Royal Captain India flnan, arrived at Spithead from China, lays, Without doubt you have heard of the unhappy fate which happened to the Elizabeth in the Boca Tigris, ncarf'anton in China the Bth of January lad. She took fire between ten and ele ven o'clock at night, when every body was aiteep in his hammock, and the fire had got tp such a head before the a larm was given, that in about Half an hour after (he blew up, and the mads, fails, and rigging, went overboard We had not time to get the boat out. It was a mod fhockl ing and dismal fight to fee so many poor fouls, Come in the rigg in g and others floating irt the sea j and being f our leagues from any fliore, and two from any ship, before we could get any afliflance, we were obliged either to day and be burnt, or jump into the fca. We lod our captain, second and fifth mates, with 44 men. Eight and myfelf were taken up by the Harcourt’s boat.” By private letters from Holland we learn, that a squadron of eight ships, each carrying 20 guns and yeomen, is fitt ing out with all possible diligence for the East-Indies, to re cover and maintain the settlements of the Dutch Ead-India Company in the island of Ceylon. Os these vefTels four are fitted out by the city of Amsterdam, two by Rotterdam, one by Dort, and one by Delft. The Dutch news-papers make mention of a marriage be ing on the carpet between the reigning Prince of Mecklen burgh-Strelitz, elded brother to the Queen, and her Royal Highness thePrinccfs Louisa Anne, the King’s second filler. July 4. Letters from Paris mention, that a courier arrived there from Stockholm the 22d of lad month; with advice that a treaty of alliance was concluded between the King of Sweden and his mod Chridian Majedy. It is said, that by this treaty Sweden engages to furnilh France with as many troops as she lhall have occasion for, to be employed in what manner France shall think fit. It is said that claim made by the King of Pruflia upon Great-Britain amounts to about five millions of German crowns. This fum* seems to be excessive; but it will cease to appear so, if we can be allured that it concludes the sub sidy for the year 1762, which alonfc amounted, for each of the preceding years, to four millions. Three French men of war are near ready to launch at Bred, one of them pf irriguns. This Gazette contains addrefles on the peace from the county of Dublin, the counties of Fife, Clackmannan, Ayr and Aberdeen, the city of Glasgow, and the boroughs of Perth, Forres and Linlithgow. . A Dutch drip, Claus Keuken mader, which arrived in the Texel *be 24th nit. from Greenland adepts, that they have had an extraordinary fine whale-fifhery this year; that in lat, he caught nine filh, and lod feveh, and there he fell in with four English ships all full of blubber. . Some letters from Germany advise, that, in conlequence of the fete irruption of the Turks into imperial Croatia, the court of V ienna have resolved to fill up their regiments a gain to their highed complement. They had taken several prize?, but it is supposed the trea sure and effe&s being on beard the JLord Clive, are all lod. Another account fays, that the Lord Clive privateer, • Capt. M*Namara, who had taken a very rich prize, and put the treasure on board his own Ship, afterwards, in at tacking a SpaniSh fort, called Nova Colonia, his own Ship by fome accident blew up, and he with 3 50 of his men peri iked*
