Whitebait, Nov. 11. The Lords Coramifiioners for Trade
and Plantations having received information that many per
sons are desirous of grants of lands in his Ma elty’s provinces
Os fcaft Florida and Weft Florida in America, in order to the
cultivation of the feme (or the raising of silk, cotton, w ine,
oil, indigo, cochineal, and other commodities to which the
said lands are adapted, their LordOiips therefore, to avoid
any delay in the making of such settlements, do, by his
Majesty’s command, give publick notice, that his Majesty
bar been pleased to direA, that the lands in his Majesty’s
said provinces of Bast Florida and Weft Florida ftiall be sur
veyed and laid out into town (hips, not exceeding 20,000
acres each, for the convenience and accommodation of set
tlers ; and that these townihips, or any proportions thereof,
Will be granted, upon the fame moderate conditions of quit
rent and cultivation as are required in other colonies, to such
persons as ftiall be willing to enter into rrafonabie engage
ment! to fettle the lands within a limited time, and at"their
own expence, with a proper number of ufeful and industrious
Prcieftant inhabitants, either from his Majesty’s other cclo
nics, or from foreign parts; and all persons who may be
willing to obtain such grants, are dfcfired to fend their pro
posals in writing to John Pownall, Esq. Secretary to the
