By a gentleman lately arrived from Paris we are informed,
that Mr. Wilkes, about three weeks ago, was dangerously
ill of a fever, occaiiaAed by the pain of his wound, but that
he is now entirely recovered : He lives in a very genteel
manner at his lodgings, much the fame as he used to do in
England, but not in that fplendour and grandeur as has
been given out.
We hear that Mr. Wilkes’s friend, who was to be his fc

May 17. Some private letters from Poland advise, that
a considerable part of the Grandees, at the head of which
was the Prince Prince, had declared for Prince Charles of
Saxony, Dukf of Courland and Semigallia, who, if he
ftiould obtain the throne, will thereby become the Lord Pa*
ramountof Courland, of which he has been forcibly depriv
ed by the Duke de Bircn.
They write from Sluchteren in Germany, of the 2d inft*
that a water spout or cloud happened to break near that
place, by which fix of the adjacent villages were quite
ruined.
We hear that a policy for a considerable Turn was handed
