at a meeting of the headmen of the upper towns, about three
weeks ago, the. Gun Merchant and others, on being inform

A PROCLAMATION.
WHEREAS the means provided by the aft to prevent
the further fpreadiug of the smallpox in Savannah,
and other parts of this province, have not wholly answered
the humane and salutary intention of the legiffaturei AND
WHEREAS it is thought expedient to admit of inoculation,
(under certain regulations) within the limits in which by the
aft it is prohibited, from and after the Ist day of thuin-
Aant August, in order that the said town of Savannah may
be the sooner and more efftftually cleared from the said
disease, I HAVE THERBPORB, by and with the advice
and con feat of his Majesty’s Honourable Council, thought
dt to issue this my proclamation, notifying, That, pursuant
lo the power and authority contained in the (hid aft; per
mifion is riven to all and every person and persons whatib
ever, inhabitants of the (aid town of Snvmanah, or living or
swddiag within the limits mentioned and deferibed in the
(aid aft, and to fnch other persons us aftually have lots and ‘
houses in the town of Savaonah, or within the limits afore
said, and who sometimes reside thoighibore frequent-
ly in the country, to inoculate, or be for the
(mallpbx, from and after the said lass day of this inffant
August, any where within the said town and liuiu, any
thing contained in the said aft to the contrary notwithstand
ing. AND, in order to prevent the said disease being con
tinued in the said town, and other places contiguous, and
mentioned in the said aft, it is hereby notified and declared,
that the permission given by the (hid order iu couucil does
net extend, or is to be construed to extend, to allow, per
mit, or slitter,, any peifon or persons whatsoever, refilling
without the. said town and limits, (otherthan as afore-men
tioned) to inoculate, or be inoculated, for the fmailpoA,
within the town and limits aforefaid, or for the inoculating
of any negioes or (laves belonging to any perion* who are,
by the (aid order, permitted to inoculate within the towu
and limits aforefaid, except only (uch as are and have been
* usually employed and kept within the town and limits afore.
